Position Summary:

The Associate Director of Student Philanthropy (Associate Director) is a key member of the Lifetime Annual Giving team in the Office of University Advancement at William & Mary and is responsible for the management of student programming as part of a comprehensive institution-wide program for Student Philanthropy outreach.

Reporting to the Director of Lifetime Annual Giving, the Associate Director will partner with W&M Alumni Association Staff, University Events Staff and other campus partners to coordinate effective student philanthropy and engagement opportunities. The position will co-manage our Students for University Advancement (SUA) group which executes student philanthropy and our senior class gift program. They may also support an Annual Giving Board of Directors Committee Chair who focuses on student philanthropy and young alumni stewardship in coordination with the Director of Lifetime Annual Giving and the Assistant Director of Young Guarde Philanthropy. The position will assist the Director of Lifetime Annual Giving to develop and implement strategic plans to maximize dollars through and participation in, William & Mary’s student programs and work in unison with officers and research staff to develop goals and giving strategies.

The Associate Director will be a proactive member of the talented and creative Annual Giving team, which includes responsibilities for Reunion & Affinity Annual Giving, Lifetime Annual Giving, Direct Marketing and Digital Annual Giving. The Associate Director will be a champion for diversity and equity and will find innovative ways to incorporate diverse perspectives into all aspects of their work. This position is based in Williamsburg and is expected to work in the Advancement office in New Town, eligible to work remotely up to two days per week.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education, training and or experience.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness, including, but not limited to, collaboration, staffing and programming.
  • Experience working in marketing, volunteer management and/or fundraising (Typically, 3+ years).
  • Experience in student management, alumni relations, volunteer management or advising. (Typically, 2 -3 Years)
  • Understanding of an environment of fundraising, donor relations, marketing, and higher education with respect to confidentiality of information that relates to the donor base.
  • Strategic vision to create and manage a student group to harness the potential of the larger community toward engagement and philanthropic goals.
  • Strong analytical, computational and quantitative skills, with the ability to extract and analyze data, produce reports in a variety of formats, with the demonstrated ability to resolve problems, respond to inquiries, obtain and disseminate information.
  • Strong administrative and project coordination experience with the demonstrated ability to plan, manage and track projects through completion.
  • Proficiency with a variety of software applications to include web-based applications and MS Office (with strong skills in Word and Excel), to include creating mail-merges and develop spreadsheets with formulas and data links.
  • Excellent customer service skills, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external constituencies, while exercising tact and diplomacy in all interactions.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the demonstrated ability to manage and train volunteers and students.
  • Commitment to teamwork and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues from across the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous management or supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with database applications and CRM systems (typically 3+ years).
  • Experience working with boards or volunteer committees. (Typically, 3 years)
  • Significant experience in higher education fundraising environment.

Advertised Pay Range:

Up to $64,000, commensurate with experience

Advertised Pay Range Statement:
