THIS IS A GRANT FUNDED POSITION

Job Summary: 

The Lab Manager will aid in the collection and processing of biological specimens from research participants, which may include blood, saliva, nail clippings, hair samples, and microbiome specimens. Conducts chemical, physical, or biological analyses and provides support to scientific researchers in various projects. Operates laboratory instruments, including but not limited to centrifuges, titrators, pipetting devices, and pH meters. Executes laboratory tests following established protocols, documenting and reporting findings accurately.
Plans, organizes, and conducts controlled experiments and trials. Records and interprets data, calculates test outcomes, and communicates results to the supervisor. Performs daily quality control checks and calibrates instruments, ensuring they are properly adjusted before conducting laboratory tests. Oversees the maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment.
Compiles, inputs, and visualizes data, as well as files reports. Evaluates laboratory requirements, manages inventory of supplies, and orders necessary materials and equipment. Establishes and maintains an inventory control system for supplies and equipment, ensuring timely and efficient placement of work orders for laboratory maintenance.
May oversee and train other laboratory personnel, ensuring equitable distribution and completion of tasks. Plays a crucial role in facilitating collaboration between operating laboratories, researchers, and principal investigators to foster and enhance cross-functional research interactions and opportunities. May serve as a senior expert within the laboratory. Assists in the planning, development, and management of projects that support departmental research objectives.
Provides management with summaries of project progress, risks, results, and inquiries related to laboratory performance. Functions as a vital team member within the OSU Biomedical Imaging Center, CIRCA, and HBCD, and as an extended team member in the laboratories of research faculty associated with the Hardesty Center. This role requires an individual who is self-motivated and enthusiastic.

EnvironmentalHazard: 
Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, bio-hazards, radioactive materials,hot and cold , blood borne pathogens. 

Physical Requirements: 

Abilityto lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20 pounds

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Requirements: 
- Doctoral degree with +2 years of experience, or
- Master's degree with +5 years of experience, or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with biological samples 
- Valid Driver's License 

Skills, Proficiencies, and Knowledge: 
Experience using FreezerWorks sample management software
Experience running a human biosample laboratory
Experience working with large multi-site human research projects.
Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills in English
