Description

The role of the Resident Director is to assist in creating and maintaining a positive, student-centered community within the residence halls. This includes the establishment of programs and services which foster respect, dignity, collegiality and civility among residential students, in unison with the ethics and spirit of the university’s mission. The Resident Director must possess the ability to adapt and respond to changing needs of students and the University.

Examples of Duties

  • Live-in professional position within a specified campus residence facility.
  • Manage all residence hall operations within their assigned area (approximately 250 residents in hall and over 1000 campus wide) including, but not limited to: student programming, housing assignments/room changes, key inventory, damage billing, check-in/check-out, maintenance/housekeeping requests, furniture inventory and coordination of replacements/repairs, and Health and Safety Inspections.
  • Participate in the on-call duty rotation.
  • Supervise and mentor eight (8) Resident Assistants (para-professionals) within their residential area.
  • Budget management for programming and other critical needs.
  • Serve as a conduct officer for assigned resident students.
  • Work collaboratively with campus offices and establish appropriate relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Assist with the housing component of summer camps and conferences.
  • Participate in Student Life and campus wide events as assigned (i.e., Orientation, Homecoming, Commencement, and others).
  • Serve on divisional and/or campus wide committees as requested (students of concern, Title IX).
  • Additional functions by skill/interest:
  • Coordinate/ supervise late night/weekend programming (in cooperation with Assistant Director of Campus Life).
  • Coordinate welcome weekend activities and serve as liaison for orientation programs.
  • Coordinate student staff selection, training, and development.
  • Coordinate overall housing assignments and occupancy management.
  • Typical Qualifications

    Education:
    Bachelor’s DegreeExperience:
    A minimum of two years of experience working with traditional age college student, working in a residential setting, facilities management, event management or other applicable experience.Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
    Experience with data management, Microsoft Office applications, and staff supervision is beneficial. Strong organizational/management skills and crisis management/conflict resolution skills.Supplemental Information
