Assistant Professor of Sociology

The Spadoni College of Education and Social Sciences at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Sociology beginning in August, 2025. A Ph.D. in Sociology is required at the time of the appointment. The candidate should also have evidence of excellent teaching and scholarly productivity, experiential learning, and community/public engagement with regard to poverty/inequality/homelessness/criminology.

The Department offers the Bachelors of Arts degrees in Sociology, and Criminal Justice. We also support minors in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Social Justice, and Sociology. This highly collaborative and active department encourages unified classroom experiences and promotes experiential learning that highlights faculty areas of expertise and research.

Coastal Carolina University is a public comprehensive liberal arts institution located in Conway, South Carolina, just nine miles from the Atlantic coastal resort city of Myrtle Beach. Duties

  1. Communicating to students after reviewing written exams and papers, evaluating artistic presentations, supervising independent study projects, supervising or teaching clinical internships or programs.
  2. Tracking and reporting absences during the designated period as directed by the Office of the Registrar. Calculating and assigning grades (midterm and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty Manual and University Catalog.
  3. Conducts research to create and add to knowledge in a field, including the advancement of new theories and principles to improve educational effectiveness.
  4. Engages in University-related activities including committee assignments, meetings and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual. Posting and holding of office hours per College guidelines. Faculty members are expected to hold regular office hours in accordance with their discipline’s college guidelines.
  5. Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom and/or laboratory, preparation for each course and/or lab assigned, and preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus).
