Facilities Management is an integral element of the Business Affairs team and serves to create, maintain, and continuously improve the William & Mary physical environment to enable excellence in teaching, research, and public service.

Position Summary:

Plumbers are responsible for assembling, installing, maintaining and repairing pipes, valves, faucets, irrigation systems, backflow prevention devices, lavatories, commodes, urinals, trap sewer vents, and other sanitary fixtures.Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Reviews blueprints, building codes, and specifications to determine work details and procedures; as well as plan installations around obstructions.
  • Installs and repairs drinking fountains and sprinkling systems.
  • Decides on materials and parts required to complete tasks, orders appropriate parts needed for jobs, and coordinates scheduling with customers.
  • Periodically assists with basic electrical and carpentry repairs needed across campus.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position has been designated as essential to the operation of the department and will require reporting to work when the university is officially closed.
  • Incumbents will be required to participate in the Facilities Management on-call program. In addition, they will be required to operate the Main Steam Plant in the event of an unexpected absence not covered by the Operations Group.
  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and a minimum of two (2) years of driving experience.
  • Experience in the practices, methods, materials, and tools of the plumbing trade.
  • Proven ability to perform general plumbing work in the successful alteration, repair, and maintenance of buildings and their plumbing systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to decide on the means and methods of task accomplishment on work orders; determine materials and parts required to complete tasks; order parts from the storeroom; and coordinate schedules and appointments with customers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Journeyman’s License in Plumbing.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Working knowledge or experience with the practices, methods, materials, and tools of the electrical and carpentry trades.

Advertised Pay Range:

Up to $53,000- commensurate with experience
