Facilities Management is an integral element of the Business Affairs team and serves to create, maintain, and continuously improve the William & Mary physical environment to enable excellence in teaching, research, and public service.

Position Summary:

This position is a part of the plumbing shop, responsible for providing master mechanic plumbing, structural maintenance and repair campus-wide. The incumbent performs under general supervision and requires the application of standard trade practices in providing plumbing maintenance and repair as well as incidental support for electrical and carpentry repairs for all facilities.

Work hours are typically Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Conditions of Employment:

This position is subject to overtime and schedule changes and may be required to work shifts during weekends, holidays, and special events. Incumbent may be required to participate in the Facilities Management “on-call” program. This position has been designated as essential to the operation of the department, will require reporting to work when the university is officially closed, and is subject to overtime.

Required Qualifications:

Must have extensive experience in the practices, methods, materials, and tools of the plumbing trade and a working knowledge in the practices, methods, materials, and tools of the electrical and carpentry trades. Proven ability to perform advanced plumbing work in the alteration, repair, and maintenance of buildings and their plumbing system and campus utility systems. Ability to interpret construction specifications and drawings and conduct research using vendor submittals. Ability to communicate orally and in writing, decide on means and methods of task accomplishment on work orders, determines materials and parts required to complete tasks; orders parts from storeroom; and coordinate schedules and appointments with customers.

Required: High school graduate or equivalent. Valid driver’s license.
Extensive experience in plumbing with working knowledge in carpentry and electrical repairs.

Journeyman’s License in plumbing.
Basic computer skills.

Advertised Pay Range:

Up to $54,000; commensurate with experience.
