Unit Mission Statement:The Provost is the chief academic officer of William & Mary. The provost, in accordance with policies, established by the Board of Visitors is responsible for all academic and research programs, academic budgets, institutional planning, space allocation and faculty development.
Position Summary:The Virginia Coastal Resilience Collaborative (VCRC) is a university-wide interdisciplinary collaborative which will produce the science and research translation necessary for stake holders, leaders, and decision-makers tasked with developing and maintaining resilient coastal ecosystems and communities in the Commonwealth and beyond.
The Assistant Director reports to and partners with the Assistant Provost for Coastal Resilience/Director of the Virginia Coastal Collaborative (VCRC) to increase the visibility and impact of existing programs at W&M, including the School of Marine Science, Law School, School of Business, the Public Policy Program, Department of Economics, the Whole of Government Center of Excellence, and the Entrepreneurship Center, among others, and to engage W&M and our local community to develop new programs and opportunities for furthering experiential education, research, and service.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Project management, including developing and tracking metrics of projects.
- Assist the director with engaging and collaborating with faculty across W&M
- Assist director in conceptualizing, recruiting for, and writing grant applications for teams including W&M and other institutions.
- Take primary responsibility for coordination and supervision of VCRC Law Fellow(s).
- Assist in strategic planning for VCRC.
- Assist in the identification of new issues, themes, partners, and potential projects for VCRC.
- Interface with current and potential partners of the VCRC.
- This position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week to meet the business needs of the VCRC.
- Valid Driver’s License must be maintained throughout employment.

Position Months:Faculty or Staff: 12 month
Required Qualifications:- Master’s degree in government, economics, public policy, environmental science/policy, hydrology, engineering, atmospheric science, or another discipline related to resilience or combination of education and significant, relative work experience in coastal resilience.
- Detailed scientific knowledge/experience in a field associated with resilience such as disaster management, environmental protection/management, water management, engineering, atmospheric sciences, etc.
- General working knowledge and demonstrated grasp of a broad range of issues related to resilience, such as climate modeling, insurance, economics, tax policy, engineering, · historical context, vulnerability analysis, stormwater management, National Flood Insurance Program, architecture, and planning.
- Ability to use creativity in conceptualizing interdisciplinary projects, bringing together appropriate parties to develop project descriptions, and ability to write successful grants.
- Demonstration of excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Project management experience and/or supervisory experience with students/researchers.
- Ph.D. in government, economics, public policy, environmental science/policy, hydrology, engineering, atmospheric science, or another discipline related to resilience.
- In-depth knowledge of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s history, geography, politics, culture, and economy.
- Experience in state or local government in Virginia.
- Experience building trusted relationships with a variety of partners.
- Knowledge of Virginia land use planning or other relevant topics, such as water-quality protection, wetlands protection, stormwater management, and the Chesapeake Bay Protection Act.

Advertised Pay Range:Up to $101,000, commensurate with experience
