Director of Facilities Management

Chatham University invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Director of Facilities Management.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Director will manage all aspects of the facilities management department, including: daily operation and maintenance, custodial operations, design, construction and renovations, landscape maintenance, personnel issues, financial planning and implementation, work scheduling and planning and implementing the support of special events.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and directs engineering, construction and utilities maintenance, buildings and grounds maintenance, mechanical and electrical maintenance and housekeeping services.
  • Responsible for the oversight of approximately 1 million sq ft. across multiple buildings and locations.
  • Leads a department that consists of trades, grounds, housekeeping, administration, and events staff.
  • Interview, hire, onboard, and train new employees. Responsible for the ongoing training and development of all staff.
  • Assure all life safety, elevators, and mechanical equipment are in compliance with local AHJ's.
  • Tasked with implementing a key inventory system.
  • In conjunction with the facilities services manager, assure the Shadyside campus maintains its credentials to be labeled a tree campus and arboretum.
  • In conjunction with the facilities services manager and athletics, coordinate housing for third party summer camps.
  • Participate on safety and space planning committees as well as play a role in emergency management.
  • Develop and negotiate vendor contracts.
  • Oversight of contracted CPO to maintain swimming pool.
  • Work with on site food services vendor to assure the proper operation of commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Plans and directs all activity related to energy efficiency of all heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems and associated control systems to ensure maximum energy savings.
  • Prepares and administers departmental annual budget; prepares and administers the university's operational and capital projects (maintain a 5 year capital plan).
  • Responsible for coordinating snow and ice removal on campus sidewalks, stairs, parking lots and roads and Woodland Road.
  • Responsible for providing guidance to, and supervision of, outside vendors and contractors.
  • Responsible for all personnel actions within the department and coordinating personnel actions with the AVP of HR as appropriate.
  • Participates in labor contract negotiations and ensures accurate contact interpretation. Provides leadership to maintain good labor relations.
  • Responsible for communicating with appropriate students, faculty, staff, road residents, and tenants to meet their facilities related needs and anticipate and resolve potential problem areas.
  • Responsible to communicate with facilities management employees to keep them informed of performance expectations and facilities related issues.
  • Project management. Oversees design, engineering, construction and renovations to all buildings and the grounds and optimal space utilization through long-term planning.
  • Work in collaboration with two road associations to ensure the physical upkeep of surfaces, fixtures, and esthetics of campus roads.
  • Respond to emergencies during off hours. Respond in person when necessary.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires a moderate amount of physical labor in assisting with moving equipment, lifting supplies and transporting supplies and equipment.


Qualifications:

  • Possess an undergraduate degree in engineering, facilities management, business, or a related field.
  • Supervisory experience in an active and customer service environment. Background in a union environment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with various facilities automation tools such as computerized maintenance management system.
  • Knowledge and skills with project management software that includes tracking work orders.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and provide solutions during normal work hours and off-hours.

Salary Range:

$100,000 - $130,000. 40-hour work week.
