The School of Arts and Sciences seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach one face-to-face section of  Qualitative Research Methods in Public Health during the Fall Semester, 2024. The courses will meet once per week for three hours on our Boston campus.  This is a graduate level course that is a requirement for Master of Public Health (MPH) candidates with a concentration in Community Health and an elective for other related graduate programs. In this course, students will learn qualitative research theory, approaches, and health services considerations along with the importance and relationship of positionality, theoretical framework, and paradigms of inquiry. The role of qualitative research in the evaluating and informing professional practice is considered. Students work in interdisciplinary groups to design and conduct research, including protocol design, data collection, coding, analysis, validation and presentation of findings.

• Delivers didactic instruction via multiple formats (in-person, online, or in a ‘blended’ format)
• Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria
• Provide engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered
• Support incorporation of diversity, equity and inclusion into the curriculum, as well as co-curricular experiences, to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge of health disparities
• Use the University’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students
• Advise and assist students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by videoconference, phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor

Required

• Minimum of a master’s degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, or related field; doctorate preferred
• Minimum of one year of teaching experience at the college/university level
• Commitment to undergraduate, graduate and/or professional education and student success
• Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, administration/staff, alumni, and external constituents, including healthcare industry professionals)
• Experience teaching health care-focused students preferred
