Requirements

Located in a historic neighborhood in the nation's capital, Georgetown University offers rigorous academic programs, a global perspective, exciting ways to take advantage of Washington, D.C., and a commitment to social justice. Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry and making a difference in the world. Work in Georgetown's Laboratory for Relational Cognition focuses on relational thinking and reasoning - how we understand the connections between the ideas and events we encounter and how we come up with new, creative connections. Current directions in the lab include learning of relational concepts and reasoning strategies (including in real-world STEM classrooms), enhancing creative cognition and relational reasoning through training and electrical neuromodulation, overcoming anxiety about being creative, and identifying neurocognitive bases of relational concepts and schemas about supernatural entities. Our work engages and, where appropriate, seeks to integrate behavioral, brain-imaging, and genetic data.

The Research Coordinator works in the Georgetown Laboratory for Relational Cognition directed by Adam Green, focusing on NSF-funded research investigating creativity in educational contexts. In conjunction with the project team, they will contribute to ramping-up and conducting a large-scale data collection effort involving multiple institutions. Depending on level of interest, the incumbent will have substantial opportunity to engage with all aspects of the project, including the development of new computational tools to assess creativity, data analysis, and write-up. Under the supervision of the PI, the Research Coordinator has additional duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Lead the biweekly project meetings with collaborators at The Pennsylvania State University (PSU) in Pennsylvania, and the University of San Francisco (USF) in California, taking comprehensive notes of all meetings and project updates.
  • Bring decisions and plans made in meetings to fruition, compiling all tasks and surveys into research materials administered to participants during all sessions.
  • Ensure that session protocols are comprehensive, effective, and realistic.
  • Facilitate participant payment, collaborating with the lab manager to write and prepare project reports and financial reports.
  • When necessary, file reimbursements, purchase orders, requisitions, and other documentation in GMS to aid in research/ lab activities.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 1 to 2 years of work experience in a Lab setting - including laboratory research experience
  • Customer-oriented experience
  • Interpersonal skills
  • High level of organizational skill
  • Computing and data analysis skills preferred
