Position Summary:

The Chief of Staff and Chief Business Officer will be responsible for strategically managing the budget, office, and relationships with the university community. This incumbent will oversee communications for University Human Resources (UHR) to ensure consistency and accuracy of messages related to UHR programs, policies, and procedures. The role involves an elevated level of responsibility for fiscal and relationship management. The position uses a high level of confidentiality and professionalism. This individual will possess strong financial management, communication, and organizational capabilities.

  • Professional experience in an office setting.

  • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with a variety of persons at all levels of management within and external to a university environment.

Budget Oversight:

  • Manage the budget for the division including salaries, operational spending, and software expenses.
  • Includes participation in procurement for all purchases in the division.
  • Is the primary contact and relationship manager with vendors for the division
  • Responsible for division resources including IT equipment and services

Communications:

  • Oversee the communications for University Human Resources. These communications generally are shared with a broad audience including faculty, staff, and leadership.
  • Ensure communications are properly reviewed by the appropriate individuals (not only in UHR).
  • Plan the communications to ensure messages are sent at the appropriate time.
  • Oversee maintenance of the website and initiate social media as appropriate.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Office Management & Department Support:

  • Strategically plan the business for the department (UHR employs approximately 100 staff members) including scheduling, communications, and office resources – supplies, space, and maintenance.
  • Oversight of scheduling for the VP CHRO and strategic projects and programs to optimize time utilization.
  • Provide oversight and logistical support for recruiting within UHR.
  • Proactively, identify funding for internal team member development and manage the distribution of resources to the department.

Leadership:

  • As a member of the UHR Leadership team, the Chief of Staff CBO will participate in leadership meetings, provide support to other leadership team members, and work in partnership with other central departments (examples- Finance, Budget, President’s Office, Marketing & Communications).
  • Actively engage in efforts to achieve the strategic plan for the UHR organization.
  • Other duties as defined by the VP Chief Human Resources Officer of the division.
