Purpose of Position

This position will assistant and perform research assays conducted by other researchers in the lab, maintain and operate our laboratory equipment, supervise personnel (especially undergraduate students), record and/or analyze research data, order laboratory supplies, and ensure strict safety procedure, safety checks, and the safe removal of waste.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • General and technical support for a biomedical research laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Sciences (*This position may work with animals*)
  • Assist with biomedical research assays conducted by other researchers by preparing reagents, solutions, cell cultures, and biological specimens and samples.
  • Perform biomedical research assays, immunoblotting, immunostaining, and ELISA, to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations.
  • Use GraphPad software for data analysis and the preparation of graphs.
  • Conduct searches on identified topics relevant to the research.
  • Report research results and contribute to manuscript preparation.
  • Document protocols and data for research activity.

  • Maintain and operate standard and specialized laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain and operate the following laboratory equipment, such as biological safety cabinet, plate reader, Microscope, and Odyssey Fc multi-modal imager, keeping the lab and equipment in a clean and serviceable condition.
  • Order and keep track of laboratory supplies, ensuring the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced.
  • Ensure strict safety procedures, safety checks, and the safe removal of waste.
  • Supervise and oversee personnel including undergraduate and incoming graduate students.

  • Ability to calculate molarity and dilutions in metric system.

  • The ability to learn specific, practical techniques and apply this knowledge to solve technical problems.
  • The ability for effective time management skills to work on different projects.
  • The ability to provide demonstrations and writing technical reports.
Minimum Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Biomedical science or equivalent including biology and biochemistry
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical science or equivalent
  • Previous biomedical science research experience in Bio-Rad protein assay, immunoblotting, and ELISA.
  • Previous experience supervising and overseeing undergraduate students.
