Job Summary
The Ithaca College Computer Science Department invites applications for a tenure-eligible computer science position starting in the 2025-2026 academic year. We are excited to work with a computer science educator from any area of specialization who is enthusiastic about teaching undergraduate students in a small classroom setting and performing research with undergraduate students.
We are seeking candidates to teach courses across our entire curriculum: introductory level through upper-level undergraduate courses in their own area of specialty. Successful applicants will be well-positioned to teach a variety of computer science courses, show strong potential for scholarly and teaching excellence, have an active scholarly agenda, and contribute to the operation and improvement of the department, school, and college. Candidates with experience or interest in fostering an inclusive learning environment are particularly encouraged to apply.
Department Description
We have a vibrant, project-centered culture of involving undergraduate students in faculty scholarship through coursework, independent projects, and summer scholar initiatives. Our graduates accept competitive positions at premier technology companies, top-tier graduate programs, internationally recognized research labs, and cutting-edge startups. Our department offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in computer science, as well as a minor in computer science. We currently have roughly 100 CS majors and 25 minors and we are growing.
The IC Computer Science department places an equal value on teaching and scholarly activity, and maintains equitable faculty teaching schedules that facilitate and support this expectation. Our classes are small (e.g., 15 - 25 students) and we offer a broad cross-section of computer science topics based on our diverse range of multi- and inter-disciplinary faculty interests.
Qualifications
Appointees must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field at the start of employment, or hold ABD status and earn their Ph.D. within 2 semesters of starting. Successful candidates will show potential for teaching excellence and fostering an inclusive environment throughout the CS curriculum, from introductory programming to upper-level special topics courses. Candidates should also have an active scholarly agenda, and be able to demonstrate how they can contribute to the operation and improvement of the department, school, and college.
When reviewing candidates, we are looking for indicators of a number of core competencies. Prospective candidates must be adaptable, collaborative, inclusive, respectful, responsive, and results driven. They must communicate effectively, demonstrate leadership, exhibit professional integrity and ethics, take initiative, value personal and professional development, and show that they will engage in the college.
Ithaca College is committed to building a diverse academic community and encourages members of underrepresented groups to apply. Experience that contributes to the diversity of the college is appreciated.
