The Information Technology Support Assistant - Extra Help provides fundamental support for the Learning Management System and Instructional Technology Integration at Governors State University. This role is technical and strategic and provides direct support to all stakeholders that rely on Center for Teaching and Learning resources and services. This is a temporary position which will end when hours or funding is exhausted, or services are no longer needed.

Essential Responsibilities

90% Technology and Learning Management Support

  • Provide support for LMS Integration and System Upgrade
  • Responsible for testing system features and functionality
  • Create training documents for technology features and updates
  • Handle and troubleshoot the Learning Management System
  • Develop and implement a strategy to address increased volume of Blackboard help desk needs, including addressing phone calls and emails
  • Assist with the LMS and associated technologies
  • Assist CTL staff in providing support for LMS technology issues
  • Support students with LMS needs
  • Trouble shoots and resolves complex software problems
  • Assists higher level specialists as directed
  • 10% Other Duties As Assigned


    Additional Responsibility

  • Provide consultation, guidance and support to students in the application and use of instructional technology tools in the delivery of instruction
  • Participate in CTL Projects
  • Assist with efforts to prepare GSU to meet current and future challenges in teaching and learning with technology.
  • Provide oversight and guidance for expanded access to a Help Desk for the university LMS.
  • Required and Preferred Qualifications

    Knowledge Required

  • Preparation in utilizing instructional technologies including hardware and software, Internet-based communication technologies, LMS and distance learning techniques
  • Basic knowledge in the use of emerging technologies in instruction
  • Experience with web technologies, multimedia applications, and/or distance learning technology
  • Ability to troubleshoot a system, test out solutions, and provide documentation on solution to problem
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strong attention to details
  • Ability to meet deadlines and project timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team
