Job Description

The Department of Music and Dance is seeking a one-year non-tenure track lecturer in Wind Instrument Studies to conduct the UMass Symphony Orchestra and to teach basic and instrumental conducting classes; as well as co-teach a graduate conducting seminar and support students in the Graduate Certificate in Wind Conducting program. In addition to the teaching and conducting responsibilities, this position will coordinate and schedule all undergraduate and graduate auditions for instrumental ensembles, administrate and conduct the Annual UMass Honor Band, and actively recruit instrumental and conducting students for the Music Department. The NTT Lecturer will also provide service responsibilities to the Department of Music and Dance by assisting with the planning of local, regional, and international tours for the wind bands, facilitating campus visits from high school programs in coordination with the Director of Admissions, planning professional guest artists and soloist residencies for the Wind Area, and serving on departmental and university committees.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

M.M. in Conducting required, D.M.A. in Conducting preferred. Experience teaching conducting classes at a college-level required.

Salary Information

Annual Salary $70,000.

Additional Information

This is a one-year NTT appointment at 100% FTE.
