Position Summary:

This position provides face-to-face, virtual face-to-face (SR), blended (HYR), and online (ONL) instruction in language arts, social studies, science, and/or math to adult learners age 18 and older who seek a high school diploma or want to strengthen basic skills prior to enrolling in post-secondary education.

Course offerings include Adult Basic Education, Non-Credit Reading, Non-Credit Math, Pre-Diploma, GED Math, GED Prep for Science, GED Prep for Social Studies, and GED Prep for Language Arts. Most classes meet for two days per week at Frederick Community College for three hours each day. Off-campus classes meet between 4 and 6 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

1. Plan lessons based on student needs, career and learning goals, and the established learning targets of the course.
2. Provide student-centered, differentiated, interactive instruction that promotes
measurable skills gains
3. Assess student progress using formal and informal methods.
4. Keep accurate student records, to include attendance and grades.
5. Assist with compliance of grant requirements in areas of professional
development, attendance, retention, documentation, and assessment.
6. Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing various forms of instructional technology.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree
2. Experience teaching

Desired Qualifications:

1. Previous experience in a Department of Labor Adult Education Program
2. Successful experience teaching adult learners
3. Successful experience teaching online or in a blended learning environment
4. Excellent oral and written communication skills
5. Ability to work positively and effectively with students from diverse
backgrounds
6. Successful experience using various online instructional platforms
