Venture Development Lead, Health Sciences will work within the Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge (ERIK) Health Sciences Innovation team to map a plan for leading the university’s cutting- edge technologies to market through out-licensing as well as the creation and support of OSU startup companies under the direction of the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Health Sciences. This position will work closely with the AVP to build a specialized team responsible for researching, developing and marketing marketing OSU health sciences technologies to local, national and international industry partners for licensing. This position is responsible for the identification of start-up opportunities within OSU’s Health Sciences area of activity which includes, but is not limited to, Digital Health, Therapeutics, Diagnostics and Medical Devices. The Venture Development Lead will evaluate technologies’ prospects, identify business models, and will assist with business plan creation and review. Conduct market research and technology due diligence on high-value and high-impact pipeline technologies to prioritize for development and marketing. Works closely with external business leaders, industry partners, and the university to structure complex transactions that provide value to all parties and to ensure access to capital required for growth of the business. Works closely with leaders in colleges, departments, and the Technology Licensing officers to identify inventors and technologies with outstanding innovative potential, including those with strong startup potential. Introduce faculty and inventors to startup companies and entrepreneurs. Introduce funding sources to startup companies. Support startups with applications to the Ohio Third Frontier Technology Validation and Startup Fund (TVSF) Phase 2 program. Participates in the development of short- and long-range strategic goals and implements these into operations. Develops policies and procedures for implementation; provides recommendations for staff planning; leads recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management of staff.
Additional Information:Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in STEM field or equivalent experience. Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
Desired Qualifications
PHD strongly preferred in health sciences or other relevant field. 8-12 years of relevant experience. Extensive experience with state and federal commercialization advancement grants. Comprehensive knowledge of venture capital and investment funding. Technology based startup experience. In depth experience working with faculty and clinicians on technology commercialization. Extensive knowledge related to the FDA and similar governmental agencies regulatory process is. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The target salary range for this position is $110,000 - $144,700. The actual offer will depend on the candidate's experience, education, unit budget, and peer equity.
