The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Florida A&M University – Florida State University (FAMU-FSU) joint College of Engineering invites applications for a Post Doctoral Research Scholar.
ResponsibilitiesThe postdoc will primarily focus on modeling compound flood events under climate change and sea level rise in coastal watersheds via hydrodynamic models. Given that my team works closely with various institutes (academic, government agencies, national labs etc.), there will be several opportunities for collaboration. The selected candidate will present the findings in peer-reviewed articles and conferences. It is also expected that the postdoc contributes to student mentoring and assist in writing research grants.
Qualifications- A doctoral degree in engineering (civil, agricultural, water resources or environmental), sciences (hydrology, environmental, geographical or Earth) or any closely related field
- Understanding of physical processes related to compound floods in coastal watersheds under climate change and sea level rise
- Strong computer programming (R, MATLAB or Python) as well as analytical and quantitative skills
- Hydrologic and hydrodynamic modeling as well as stochastic, statistical, time series and geospatial analyses
- Independency, communication, presentation (oral and written), fast learning and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
Dr. Ahmadisharaf's research group currently has multiple research projects funded by National Science Foundation (NSF), US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Florida Department of Environmental Protection and National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) on the broad area of water resources and hydrology.
HelpfulBeginning as early as August 2024. Funding is available for 30 months, contingent upon the postdoc performance, with the possibility of extension beyond depending on funding availability. Benefits (like family health insurance) will be provided in addition to a competitive salary.
