The University of Georgia’s (UGA) Center for Applied Isotope Studies (CAIS) seeks to hire at the rank of Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) lab. This is a renewable 12-month term non-tenure track faculty position. The AMS lab conducts radiocarbon analyses with applications in archaeology, environmental sciences, forensics, and product authenticity testing. The laboratory serves to promote the CAIS missions of enhancing the global reputation of UGA as a research institution, providing quality analytical services to researchers, and preparing Georgia students for STEM careers. The lab is a fee-for-service analytical testing facility serving the UGA research community and external clientele including, but not limited to, academic institutions, government agencies, and private companies worldwide. The successful candidate will be involved in routine operation, data collection and analysis, maintenance and troubleshooting of 500 kV NEC CAMS and 250 kV NEC SSAMS accelerator mass spectrometers. The incumbent will work closely with CAIS faculty and staff involved with sample chemistry and other analytical techniques.

The appointee is also expected to establish independence in research design and execution and publish in peer-reviewed literature.

A PhD in physics, at least three years of experience working in a particle accelerator lab setting up experiments, data collection and analysis. Hands on experience in operation and maintenance of particle accelerators.

The position requires handling/lifting of heavy equipment such as rotary pumps, various accelerator components or modules as needed. Driving.
