Job Description

The School of Arts and Sciences seeks an adjunct faculty member to deliver high quality learning experiences and education for students in the Bachelor of Science in Public Health Program. The selected candidate will have responsibilities teaching face-to-face, on campus courses to undergraduate Public Health program majors and minors. Subject matters Global Health and Infectious Disease Epidemiology.

Global Health:

This interdisciplinary course examines social determinants of health in global context. Students examine public health infrastructure, global health delivery and health systems changes, equity, social justice, and opportunities for prevention and health promotion initiatives within and across borders. Such subjects as emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, challenges of chronic illness, maternal health, water access, sanitation, and emergency preparedness are studied.

Infectious Disease Epidemiology:

This course introduces principles and methods of infectious disease (ID) epidemiology. Students will learn about spread and control of IDs, and develop an understanding of risk factors, causes and different modes of transmission. It will provide a basic understanding of epidemiologic tools used in studying IDs. Students will examine current issues in the field as it applies to public health.

  • Deliver face-to-face (on-campus) didactic instruction to primarily undergraduate public health major and minor students
  • Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, evaluation criteria, and attendance policies in line with those of the School
  • Provide engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered
  • Support incorporation of diversity, equity and inclusion into the curriculum to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge of health disparities
  • Use the University’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students
  • Advise and assist students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by videoconference, phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Dean or Department Chair
Requirements

Required:

  • A Ph.D., ScD., DrPH, or equivalent doctoral degree in public health or related discipline; Applicants who are ABD may be considered
  • Minimum of two years of work experience in a public health-related discipline
  • Minimum of one year of teaching experience at the college/university level
  • Commitment to undergraduate education and student success
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, administration/staff, alumni, and external constituents, including healthcare industry professionals)
