Position Summary

Provide leadership for the Facility Services team in order to provide a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and visitors. This position manages, through departmental supervisors, the maintenance, building controls, custodial services, and grounds of the college campus and York Country Day School. The Director is expected to operate professionally in all areas of responsibilities to reflect the mission of the Campus Operations Division and the College.

Assures that the physical operation of York College and York Country Day School is both efficient and well managed with minimal deferred maintenance, with an emphasis on quality customer service.

Essential Functions

Percentages may vary as the needs of the job dictate:

  • Develops, plans, implements, and administers department goals and budgets. Monitors budget to control expenditures. 20%
  • Coordinates department activities with other college divisions, departments, and outside agencies. Works closely with Campus and Special Events. 12%
  • Directs and oversees the implementation of the department work plan, assigned work, and special projects. 15%
  • Recommends and develops department policy and procedures. 10%
  • Develops or participates in writing specifications for equipment, systems, or services. 4%
  • Creates request for proposals and negotiates contract/vendor proposals. 4%
  • Oversees the hiring, training, motivation, and evaluation of personnel; coaches, disciplines and implements corrective actions as necessary. Demonstrates interaction and management with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. 12%
  • Evaluates all facility services operations on an on-going basis; recommends change to ensure efficient results. 10%
  • Assures superior customer service, relationship building and follow up skills. 5%
  • Strong safety orientation. Experience in leading safety programs a plus. Oversees part-time Environmental Heath and Safety position. 8%
  • Experience and Education Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities Management or related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible management experience in facilities management.
  • Master’s Degree in related field preferred.
  • Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal to communicate effectively with administration, faculty, staff, vendors, students and the College community.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to supervise Facility Services staff, with ability to coach, mentor and train.
  • General knowledge of equipment, tools and materials used in Facility Services activities.
  • Familiar with higher education work environment, procedures and processes.
  • Ability to create and maintain a budget.
