Purpose of Position

The Music Department is in search of an interim Director of Choral Activities to conduct choral ensembles and teach academic courses. The appointment spans the 2024-2025 academic year.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will receive a contract that allocates 87% effort to the direction of:

  • Concert Choir (mixed voices)
  • Goliards (tenor-bass chamber choir)
  • Varsity Bards (tenor-bass choir)
  • A Capella Chamber Choir (mixed voices)
  • Instruction of Choral Conducting
  • An essential study course

The successful candidate will receive 13% service allocation for assisting in coordination of the UND Honor Band, Choir, and Strings Festival, the UND Winter WUNDerland VIP Concert, and participation in faculty meetings. All faculty are expected to contribute service within the department, college, university, and community and to participate in the department’s recruitment and outreach initiatives. Required Competencies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including evidence of the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students
  • Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the Department of Music
  • Ability to adapt to current methods of teaching, including online delivery
  • Knowledge of choral literature & repertoire
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge.
  • Demonstration of strong leadership skills
  • Master of Music in Choral Conducting completed by August 15, 2024
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working as a choir director
  • Experience working with a chamber vocal ensemble
  • Experience teaching in the areas of choral and vocal pedagogy
  • Active membership in professional choral/vocal organizations
