Governors State University is a minority-serving institution and emerging Hispanic-serving institution in the Chicago Southland region seeking to hire a full-time, non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor teaching position (12 month contract, potential renewal for second year). The position will start on August 16, 2024. Qualified applicants will have an earned Master’s degree in a discipline from the Division of Science, Mathematics, and Technology, or a closely related field, with industry experience and Ph.D. degrees preferred.

The successful candidate will be expected to a) have outstanding teaching skills to teach and update undergraduate and graduate courses b) have experience working with non-traditional and diverse student populations c) assist with the development of academic program and assessment and d) participate in appropriate professional development. Essential Responsibilities

Teaching and primary duties as outlined by the Division Criteria, covering 27 credits in the annual workplan on a twelve month contract.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:1. Master’s degree in discipline included in DSMT or closely related fields.2. Knowledge and ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses3. Ability to develop and teach online courses4. Ability to complement the program’s strengthsPreferred Qualifications:1. Ph.D. in discipline from DSMT or a closely related field, or ABD in the final stages of completion.2. Professional (i.e., industry) experience is highly desirable.3. Industry recognized certification(s)4. Teaching and/or professional experience in multiple areas.5. Experience with learning management systems (i.e., Blackboard, Desire2Learn, etc.) 6. Experience in teaching and advising non-traditional or diverse student populations.7. Bilingual language proficiency (Spanish, Arabic or Hindi preferred).
