Office of Communications


UC Law SF (formerly UC Hastings) was founded in 1878 as the law department of the University of California and was the first law school in California. Over the years, it has built a legacy and reputation of being a preeminent institution comprised of renowned faculty committed to the study of legal theory and research, preparing students for careers in the judicial system, public service, and industry.




The College is redefining legal education through an experiential, interdisciplinary, and international approach to the law. By integrating rigorous academics with hands-on practice, the College is preparing its graduates to tackle modern legal challenges.








Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, this position provides high-quality content, digital strategy, and project leadership to UC Law SF through the Office of Communications. This includes managing and producing communications content for College websites, social media channels and digital campaigns; overseeing the College’s digital brand and related assets; managing or editing staff and students who produce digital content; providing analysis of digital content performance; and developing and executing digital strategies based on College communications goals. This position is hybrid and requires in-person on-campus work and occasional evening and weekend hours as determined by College and team needs.




Typical duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, the following:




  • Produce and update content for the home page and other main landing pages for the College’s website to advance the College goals on behalf of the Office of Communications. Collaborate with the Information Technology Department on key web projects. Cultivate positive relationships with faculty, staff and students to understand College stakeholders, goals, opportunities and needs. Collaborate with staff on multiple teams to provide expertise and develop and execute digital strategies. Manage Office of Communications digital content. Help advance the college’s strategic agenda with special attention to institutional reputation, student enrollment, fundraising, alumni engagement and public impact. Determine metrics for assessing results and establish effective practices for monitoring them and adjusting strategies to optimize performance. Manage UC Law SF’s central social media channels and monitor social media pertinent to the College. Working closely with the Chief Communications Officer, develop best practices for the College’s social media channels and serve as a guide for using social media for other departments. Create social media posts through writing, photography, video and graphics, or editing posts and content provided by colleagues and vendors. Evaluate analytics for digital channels and make recommendations for best practices and strategic performance on a regular basis. Manage and guide student workers and interns in digital content creation.



Other Projects and Activities


  • Collaborate on digital campaigns on owned and paid channels, including contributing to strategy development, tactical execution, content quality, and analytical tracking. Manage accounts and budget related to digital communications. Collaborate closely with the Chief Communications Officer and others to develop processes for scheduling and tracking work, determining priorities aligned with strategic goals, creating and tracking program and project budgets, and identifying and implementing tools to boost efficiency. Other related duties as assigned.





Education & Experience:




  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related field, or equivalent work experience. Minimum five years of relevant experience, including experience managing website content and social media platforms for an organization. Experience in higher education preferred.



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:




  • Experience with WordPress or other website editing platforms. Experience with administrative functions of Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn; and social media management platforms. Ability to express ideas clearly and compellingly, verbally and in writing. Strong project management capabilities. High degree of initiative and organizational skills. Creativity and imagination. A deep understanding of what qualities make digital content effective and compelling. Understanding of effective digital communication, including an understanding of WCAG and ADA compliance standards related to website content. Appreciation for the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in communications. Ability to work in a team setting, take direction well, and willingness to pitch in when needed in other areas of communication. Ability to work successfully with professors, students, staff, graphic designers, and photographers and constructively improve the work of colleagues. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadline pressure. Exercise good judgment in choosing and crafting communications content. Ability to develop creative solutions to diverse communications challenges. Experience with basic graphic design, video, audio and photography production; professional experience a plus. Knowledge of higher education preferred.

This is an exempt, full-time opportunity. The salary range is $90,000 - $110,000 annually (commensurate with qualifications/experience), plus an excellent benefits package.
