Position Summary

York Country Day School seeks a dynamic and dedicated Math teacher to join the faculty as a long-term substitute during a portion of the 2024-2025 school year.

Beginning two weeks prior to the start of the associated teacher’s leave of absence, the long-term substitute teacher will teach courses in Math for grades 6 and 7. The approximate start date will be in October 2024. Exact start and end dates will be determined closer to the service window. The assigned courses are Math 6th and Pre-Algebra.

The ideal candidate will connect well with students in each age group. Interested candidates should have expertise in 21st century learning within the classroom and knowledge with meaningful learning experiences for students. The teacher will be called upon to advise students and fulfill other duties as assigned. All teachers are expected to be involved in the life of the school and participate in school events.

Essential Functions

The ideal candidate will be able to teach Middle School mathematical skills, including quantitative reasoning, numeracy, algebraic thinking, fractions, decimals, graphing equations, and problem solving. In addition, the candidate should be able to foster critical thinking skills, engage students in classroom discussions, and promote active, student-centered learning.

Experience and Education Required

  • The ideal candidate should possess at minimum an undergraduate degree in Math education or a related field.
  • Candidates should have 3 (required) - 5 years (preferred) of teaching experience and be an excellent communicator and collaborator.
  • Candidates should have 3 (required) - 5 years (preferred) of teaching experience for Middle School students.
  • Candidates must have the capacity to deliver instruction both in-person and on a remote learning platform as needed.
  • Previous teaching in an independent school setting is desired.
