Required:Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Facilities Planning, or Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical). Seven years in construction or maintenance of central heating and cooling systems (chilled water and hot water). Experience with contractor, university, or firm with a large central plant. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Preferred:Master’s degree and/or Professional Engineering registration desirable.
Primary Responsibilities:Primary Responsibilities
Conducts strategic planning activities and formulates short- and long-term facilities plans to support the campus mission. Responsible for facilities, planning and construction, building operations and maintenance, vehicle fleet management, custodial and grounds, and environmental, health and safety programs. Coordinates department facilities planning and construction responsibilities with the staff of The Texas State University System. Oversees development and execution of Campus Master Plan, the Capital Improvement Plan for Board of Regents approval and the Master Plan update to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Responsible for developing and administering a preventive maintenance program to maintain the appearance and operation of campus buildings. Provides general oversight of custodial services for the cleanliness of buildings and grounds maintenance for the appearance and upkeep of the campus landscape. Ensures dependable operation of central plants for the comfort of employees, students and visitors. Oversees contract service providers and building utilities. Prepares energy conservation plans, implements energy and utility savings projects and establishes standards for efficient use of utilities. Responsible for Physical Plant employment related tasks such as hiring, evaluation, employee relations, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Supervision Given & Received: Reports to the Vice President for Finance and Operations. Supervises leadership for construction, custodial, grounds, fleet vehicles, and skilled and other assigned staff.

Strong leadership skills and the ability to exercise discretion, excellent reasoning, and independent judgment. Proficient in the development of policies and operational procedures. Strong interpersonal skills. Asset and fiscal resources management accountability. Contacts other University departments, vendors, and representatives from state agencies on and off campus, and contractors.
Working ConditionsUsual: Office conditions; exempt from overtime provisions. Position is Security Sensitive.Special: Travel required.
Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.

Sul Ross State University Alpine Campus is in the Scenic Davis Mountains of West Texas, is a member of the Texas State University System, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees, and has an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students of campus in Alpine, Texas. At an elevation of 4,480 feet, and on the periphery of the Chihuahuan Desert, Alpine enjoys mild winters and cool summers. Davis Mountains State Park, Fort Davis National Historic Site, Big Bend National Park, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park are all within one to three hours driving distance from Alpine.
The SRSU campuses in Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde comprise Rio Grande College. RGC offers upper-level courses leading to bachelor’s degrees as well as master’s degree programs and works closely with its partner institution, Southwest Texas Junior College, to provide a seamless transition to RGC for their students. All RGC students hold an Associate degree from an accredited institution or they have completed 42 semester credit hours of transferrable work.

Who Is Sul Ross? Where is Sul Ross?
The university's name honors Lawrence Sullivan "Sul" Ross, the son of a pioneer Waco, Texas, family and a popular soldier, governor, educator and humanitarian. Founded in 1917 as a teacher college, Sul Ross continues to offer teacher education as one of its most popular programs. Others in high demand are business, criminal justice and agricultural and natural resource sciences. Sul Ross achieved university status in 1969.
The university, comprising 647 acres in Alpine, Texas, boasts a beautiful 93-acre main campus of exquisitely-detailed buildings and enjoys perhaps the most temperate climate in the state. A Small Size, But Plenty to Do
With an enrollment of about 2,000 students on the main campus in Alpine, class sizes are small, guaranteeing a much higher level of personal attention from instructors and the university's support staff. But there's plenty for students to do in their free time: lots of student clubs and organizations, a thriving arts community and a strong athletic tradition.
The SRSU men's basketball team won the conference championship five times in the past 20 years, including the 1999 American Southwest Conference championship. The women's basketball team has also won five conference championships and played in eight national playoffs, even making it to the Final Four.
Similarly, the Lobos football and baseball teams have won five conference titles each in the past 20 years, including American Southwest Conference championships in the late 1990s. The Lady Lobos volleyball team has won nine conference championships in all.
Rodeo is significant part of the Sul Ross program, and the university is the birthplace of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. Many team members have gone on to become world champions, and 1951 graduate Harley May is a charter member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Hall of Fame.
