The University of Miami/UHealth has an exciting opportunity for a Per Diem Research Assistant 3 in the Public Health Sciences Department.
SUMMARY
The Research Assistant 3 (A) explores innovations to research and strives to improve implementation and family outcomes. The Research Assistant 3 (A) ensures compliance with University policies, rules, and regulations to meet federal, state, and local standards pertaining to safety and ethics.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plans and implements research experiments, according to research protocols, to assure high-quality scientific results in support of applicable project goals.
- Participates in assessing the feasibility of implementing innovations. Assesses data trends and develops reports and presentations.
- Supports the initiation of new research by reviewing and synthesizing literature.
- Oversees inventory of supplies and equipment and places orders in a timely fashion.
- Assists in the preparation of scientific papers, reports, and manuscripts. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions
- Provide manual-guided counseling (Recovery Guide counseling) to participants assigned to ICC-MOUD.
- Responsible for using active learning approaches to engage participants in learning about opioid use disorder, MOUD with buprenorphine, and the role of MOUD in treatment and recovery.
- Responsible for engaging participants in behavioral change, making use of tools from the Recovery Guide toolkit to help participants develop short-term, achievable, critical goals and objectives and develop with the participant-specific Recovery Plan Agreements to achieve the objectives.
- Tracking the participant’s progress in implementing the plans and achieving the objectives and working with the participant to revise the plans as needed to increase success in accomplishing the objectives.
- Responsible for documenting recovery guide sessions with participants and other related research documents.
- Follow up on visits, remind participants about upcoming appointments, and schedule assessments in advance.
- Identify specific, individual needs and steps the participant can take to support their sustained recovery.
- Participate in all required in-person and remote trainings and meetings. Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and protocol adherence. Other duties as assigned.
Department Specific Qualifications
Experience:
Experience with opioid use disorder, (lived, preferable) or related.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
- Skill in organizing and collecting data
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledgeable and familiar with people who have opioid use disorder.
- Knowledgeable and familiar with Black/African American populations and local communities.
- Ability to make decisions and use sound judgment.
- Ability to analyze, recognize, and solve problems.
- Maintain research compliance
