Job Summary:

Consciously and consistently provides excellent customer service.

Obtain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of OSU benefit and retirement plans as well as OSU student health plan in order to administer plans in accordance with plan documents, policies and/or federal and state regulations; i.e. determine eligibility, determine when changes to plan elections can be made, and adhere to various federally mandated regulations and limits.

Assists employees in resolving benefit issues utilizing direct contact with various departments, payroll, technical and vendors. Identifies potential global benefit issues and proactively and appropriately escalates as necessary to resolve further misapplication or miscommunication of OSU benefit plans.

Processes all OSU benefit related forms and verifies correct data entries are made into Banner.

Presents benefit and retirement information at New Hire Orientation and annual enrollment benefit meetings.

Must adhere to confidentiality practices established and regulated through HIPAA.

Participates in a rotational set of duties; i.e. health default, departmental inbox, LTD purge.

Must become a Notary and will be required to notarize documents as necessary.

Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time. Must be able to work on the computer for most of the day.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

High School/GED

Two years’ experience in benefits plans.

Post-secondary education may be substituted for experience.

Must be a self-starter and work independently.

Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.

Must be proficient with a variety of software (word processing, spreadsheet, data base, scanning etc.).

Must be able to work well in a diverse environment.

Critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Accuracy and consistent attention to detail is required. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business-related field.

Two years’ experience in employee and/or student health plans.
