Job DescriptionDepartment:Consulting & SolutionsPay Rate Type:SalaryEmployee Type:Job Summary:The Senior Systems Analyst, reporting to the Director of Information Technology Consulting and Solutions in the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS), plays a pivotal role in providing Colby College students, faculty, and staff with data and application solutions. In collaboration with college stakeholders and ITS colleagues, the Senior Systems Analyst evaluates business needs and delivers software solutions as part of an experienced team of technology professionals. These solutions may involve new application implementations, service rollouts, configuration or security enhancements to existing systems, or the design of business process workflows. This position carries significant enterprise-level responsibilities in system implementation, technical support, and maintenance, and may include oversight of reporting deliverables. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess business needs in a variety of higher education contexts, working closely with teams of college stakeholders, ITS staff, and vendor partners to translate those needs into technology solutions.

  • Design, in close collaboration with functional owners and team members, solutions to improve or facilitate College business and academic processes with consideration of data integration and lifecycle needs.

  • Thoroughly research the solution space and suggest options which fulfill needs while adhering to ITS strategy for new software and application solutions.

  • Document new solutions thoroughly from a technical and user perspective.

  • Deliver excellent customer service in support and solution building and design.

  • Play an integral role in the design and implementation of a reporting strategy, including assessing reporting and data needs and building metadata models and reports.

  • Collaborate with ITS and functional colleagues to assess applications and systems for improvements; identify and prioritize those areas for improvement; and work as part of a team to deliver, test, and implement improvements.

  • Troubleshoot issues and respond to incidents on production systems, applying appropriately thorough and contemporary investigative and technical methods to identify and then resolve issues.

  • Provide exceptional 2nd- and 3rd-tier support to internal customers and act as intermediary for support and implementation involving third party vendors and external stakeholders.

  • Provide highly technical expertise and guidance in the architecture, design, implementation, support, operation and maintenance of database management systems (DBMS) such as lnformix, DB2, MySQL, and SQL Server

  • Performs data movement, troubleshoots issues, and writes scripts to perform common database tasks

  • Performs installs, configuration, migrations, restores, and monitors the security and performance of the systems are not compromised

  • Prepares and delivers presentations on DBMS concepts

  • Serve as liaison between ITS and college stakeholders; act as a trusted advisor in all interactions in order to foster continued partnerships with staff across the college.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience

  • Minimum of three years of experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Configuring, customizing, or maintaining enterprise software systems at the application level (e.g., building workflows or custom functionality through scripting)

  • Working with enterprise solutions such as Workday, Jenzabar, or Banner, ideally within higher education

  • Proficiency in high-level programming or scripting languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python, Perl, Cold Fusion

  • Maintaining and configuring web-based user interfaces for the Jenzabar CX platform

  • Querying data using SQL and a solid understanding of relational databases

  • System or application administration at the enterprise level

  • Report writing or dashboard design using tools like PowerBI, Microsoft SSRS, Cognos, or Tableau

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills specific to Informix

  • Proven experience in Informix configuration, administration, performance tuning, and data recovery

  • Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions

  • Knowledge of contemporary software development practices, including source control, development lifecycles, and testing

  • Working knowledge of IT support fundamentals, including change control, issue, and incident workflow and tracking

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong relationship-building skills

  • Attention to detail in both work completion and documentation

  • Effective time management in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and determination to solve complex problems

  • Collaborative, constructive, and positive approach to work

  • Working knowledge of project management principles

  • Experience in higher education, especially in a technology role

  • Ability to work independently and as part of an established team

  • Ability to set priorities and collaborate effectively within a diverse community

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

This position has frequent and direct contact with ITS peers and colleagues, administrative and academic personnel, and third parties such as vendor and consulting contacts.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/ENVIRONMENT:
Position involves extensive sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Walking, standing, bending, twisting, and occasional lifting are required. Regular computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary. Some work outside of normal business hours may be required based on departmental needs.
