Position Summary:

This role is a crucial part of the Administration IT Support Group (AdminIT), providing essential support to the Senior Administration of UGA (e.g., Office of the President, Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Legal Affairs, Office of the Vice President for Instruction, Equal Opportunity Office). The position demands technical expertise and professional communication skills to help maintain a suite of high-profile, mission-critical UGA administrative offices. This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with technical proficiency and strong customer service skills, offering a chance to make a significant, positive impact on the University of Georgia community.This position is responsible for many core services running on Windows and Apple servers, including file and print, endpoint management, document management, infrastructure, and security. Such tasks include, but are not limited to, automation, managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting servers and their applications. Managing backups and ensuring their viability is another critical responsibility.Additionally, this post acts as a multi-tier IT support technician for clients and their endpoint devices. As a result, excellent customer service skills and troubleshooting abilities are needed for this client-facing position. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills as they interface with clients, colleagues, and management to document, troubleshoot, and communicate about incidents and workflows.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:


  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills (hardware, OS, networking, and applications).
  • Experience supporting and maintaining systems using both Apple and Windows Server.
  • Deep experience with desktop support in mixed environments.
  • Working knowledge of security standards and best practices.
  • Familiarity with scripting and tools (PowerShell, BASH, Python, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of MDM solutions (JAMF, SimpleMDM, InTune, PDQ, etc.)

  • Develop, maintain, and support servers, hardware, and services
  • Oversee and participate in the day-to-day management of servers. This includes patching, securing, backing up, monitoring, and upgrading the servers as needed.
  • Ensure the security of the systems. Maintain firewall rules (both departmental and local).
  • Develop and maintain emergency recovery procedures and ensure that backups are viable.
  • Use endpoint device management tools to help maintain the health, security, and accurate inventory of the IT infrastructure and all endpoint devices.
  • Serve as a DNL (domain network liaison) and keep DHCP entries up to date.

Percentage of time:



  • Act as a client-facing, multi-tier IT support technician supporting Windows and Apple devices
  • Respond to requests for service and engage in proactive computer support for units supported by AdminIT as assigned
  • Provide friendly, courteous, and professional customer service to clients, colleagues, and fellow team members
  • Help manage equipment life cycles, explore emerging technologies, and recommend solutions that help improve efficiency and effectiveness

  • Use a ticketing system to manage time and track requests
  • Develop documentation, presentations, and training materials. Provide training or share best practices on an as-needed basis
  • Contribute to the development of standards and best practices, collaborate with colleagues in AdminIT, and participate in projects
