Job Summary/Basic Function
The department of Early, Middle and Exceptional Education is accepting applications for a part-time instructor responsible for teaching coursework and/or supervising student teachers.

The purpose of this posting is to generate a pool of qualified faculty. Applications submitted will be reviewed on an as needed basis based on enrollment. Anyone meeting the qualifications may be contacted for an interview and potentially hired when a need exists. In the event that you are interviewed but not immediately hired, your application will remain in the departments pool of qualified faculty.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Elementary Education or related discipline.
  • At least five years full-time teaching experience in U.S. schools.
  • Successful preschool or public school experience.
  • Prior experience teaching course content or related topics.
  • Evidence of ability to successfully teach diverse student populations.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful teaching demonstration for class teaching assignments
  • Successful completion of three background checks.


Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD or ABD in Elementary Education or related specialized discipline.
  • Supervisory or Administrative experience in public school settings.
  • Prior college-level teaching experience.


Job Description
TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:The Department of Early, Middle and Exceptional Education at time needs temporary, part-time instructors to teach courses and/or supervise student teachers.
Part-time faculty members shall maintain a prorated number of office hours each week, at a minimum of twenty-five (25) minutes for each workload hour taught, at such days, times and locations as will accommodate the needs of the students.

Teaching courses may require in-person and/or online instruction. Teaching positions are contingent upon sufficient enrollments in assigned classes.

CONTINUING SCHOLARLY GROWTH AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT and SERVICE TO THE UNIVERSITY AND/OR COMMUNITY:
In addition to teaching, there is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with the assignment.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other reasonable duties assigned within the faculty member’s field of competence.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: The Early, Middle and Exceptional Education (EMEE) Department offers certification programs in Early Childhood Education, Middle Level Education, Gifted Education, ESL, Reading and Language Arts Master’s degree program/Reading Specialist Certification, and Post Bacc Certification program and master’s in Early Childhood Education (ERCH).

Essential Functions
Working Conditions and Physical Effort – (Essential Functions)
  • Teaching assignments are generally conducted in a typical collegiate classroom environment; online courses are taught through the University’s learning management system.
  • Student Teaching Supervisor assignments are conducted in school-based settings across a wide geographical area. Transportation to/from school settings is the responsibility of the supervisor.
  • Ability to:
    • sit or stand while teaching.
    • speak clearly.
    • communicate via writing exceptionally well
    • understand verbal communication (read and understand verbal messages).
    • use construction tools safely.
    • move to and from campus buildings, offices, classrooms and stage areas.
    • climb ladders.
    • stoop or bend to pick things up.


  • Must be able to lift/pull/push up to 10 pounds without assistance.
    • lift student paper bundles, small boxes, scene shop equipment and materials.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift/pull/push heavier items with assistance.
  • Teach courses face-to-face and online if necessary at the higher education level using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, using online tools and/or equipment and/or other appropriate tools appropriate modes of education delivery.
  • Able to record and calculate grades, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the delivery of instruction.
  • Use computer for email, obtain information on websites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university and community.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
