Job Description:

The UF Health Cancer Center (UFHCC) Clinical Trial Finance Internship, geared toward recent finance, accounting, business, and public health graduates, offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in clinical research billing and finance operations within a fast-paced and collaborative environment. This position will learn and support the financial aspects of clinical research projects, ensuring that billing activities are conducted accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations. They will work closely with finance professionals, research coordinators, and regulatory compliance experts to ensure that all billing activities are conducted accurately and in compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines. Engagement with faculty and staff offers a myriad of opportunities for personalized mentorship and professional development. Interns are encouraged to apply techniques learned in their degree program in the real world setting of oncology clinical research, to better prepare them for future career opportunities in clinical research finance or other roles in the administrative healthcare enterprise.

As a Clinical Trials Finance Intern, you will be embedded within our Clinical Research Administration & Finance division, working alongside our talented finance specialists and administrators to support ongoing oncology clinical research. In your internship, you will gain exposure to the clinical research process, clinical research billing processes, invoice tracking and reconciliation, and obtain valuable experiences to take with you to your future graduate or professional degree programs or as you prepare for your future career.

While participating in this program, you will be engaged in activities including:
  • Assisting in the preparation and submission of research billing invoices and financial reports.
  • Reviewing and reconciling financial data related to clinical research studies.
  • Supporting the finance team in budget tracking and forecasting for ongoing research projects.
  • Learning and utilizing commonly used clinical trial management systems.
  • Learning and utilizing commonly used electronic medical record systems.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with clinical research billing regulations and guidelines.
  • Participating in audits and financial analysis as needed.
  • Learning about principles of clinical trial contracting and how to create a corresponding billing plan.
  • Executing billing plans for a variety of study sponsors including private industry, federal grants, oncology and cooperative groups, while learning the nuances of each type of sponsor.
  • Contributing to process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency and accuracy in billing and finance operations.

Expected Salary:

$16.50 hourly

This is an OPS position, and is eligible for a suite of excellent benefits and retirement options.

Minimum Requirements:

Proof of eligibility to graduate and/or a recently awarded Bachelors' degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or similar with a cumulative GPA of 3.2.

Degree must be conferred prior to the beginning of your internship.

Preferred Qualifications:

As an ideal candidate you should have:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrated the ability to work independently, interact professionally, and effective writing and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and analyze financial data.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to successfully manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent general interpersonal and customer-service skills.

Must be available for 30-40 hours per week during normal business hours (8 AM - 5 PM).
