Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Director of Community Engagement, create and manage a strategic plan for an annual cadence of events that showcase the vision and mission of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. Provide leadership, direction, and vision on new and existing event programming to ensure the growth and impact of SDSS with a focus on the Dean’s priority and External Relations functions. Manage budget and resource allocations. Manage 2 full-time event management professionals and all aspects of event production. Collaborate with university, development, and Stanford Alumni Association event staff. Oversee the execution of small to large events including symposiums, conferences, forums, degree ceremonies, speaker series, donor dinners, celebrations, regional events, class reunions, alumni homecomings, advisory council meetings, and retreats.

In this role you will:

    Create an annual calendar of events that showcase the vision and mission of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability (SDSS)Provide strategic leadership for the creation, development, and execution of events.Manage external relations events team, including hiring and retaining staff, career coaching, personal development for direct reports and accountable for the performance of employees.Build effective and focused event management teams; maintain strong morale and team spirit.Oversee the management of event teams and/or production consultants to produce quality, multi-faceted events and productions.Work cross-departmentally to prepare and manage complex program budgets and ROI proposals.Delegate both routine and important tasks and decisions, while assuming final responsibility for event logistics.Interact with senior management across the school and university in support of event planning goals.Interact with high-profile leaders and their teams, including the University President, Provost and SDSS Dean, as well as faculty, sustainability leaders, government officials, donors, trustees and advisory council members and alumni.Evaluate events in order to continually improve their reach and effectiveness.Create standard operating procedures to improve performance.Identify opportunities for synergy and integration.Develop and nurture productive relationships with internal and external partners.Develop, propose, and manage staff and budget resources.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

    Bachelor’s degree and ten years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.Demonstrated history in creating innovative event planning strategies and successful event collaborations.Excellent judgment and decisiveness, high integrity, enthusiasm, diplomacy, and tact.Leadership to engage and empower an organized team of event planning professionals, fostering a strong, cohesive team environment.Superior verbal and written communication skills.Skilled at developing a staff of professionals and support personnel. Includes selection, motivation, and leadership of staff, as well as evaluation and development.Demonstrated competency in budget management, cost accounting and vendor contract relationships.Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to cultivate professional business partnerships.
Certifications and Licenses:

    Valid Class C California Driver’s License.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, and use a telephone.Occasionally kneel/crawl, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, and grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 21-40 pounds.Ability to obtain and maintain a California Class C license and drive day or night.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

    May require some travel and working early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

The expected pay range for this position is $117,800 – $191,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
