Departmental Overview

UC Berkeley School of Law (Berkeley Law) is one of the nation's great centers for legal education, ever exploring and pushing new intellectual boundaries while tackling urgent, real-world issues. Berkeley Law is also known for its vibrant and engaged community of students and scholars who are committed to providing leadership and making a difference on problems of local, national, and global import.

GrizzlyCorps Rural Climate Fellowship, launched in September 2020, is an AmeriCorps service program that sends recent college graduates into rural communities across California for an eleven-month fellowship to promote regenerative agri-food systems and fire and forest resilience. GrizzlyCorps is headquartered at Berkeley Law's Center for Law, Energy & the Environment (CLEE), which leverages the expertise and creativity of the faculty, staff, and students in applied research that produces pragmatic policy solutions to critical environmental and energy challenges.

Under the direction and supervision of the CLEE Executive Director, GrizzlyCorps Director and CLEE's Director of Operations, the Alumni and External Relations Specialist will provide a high level of comprehensive support and management of the GrizzlyCorps fellow recruitment process, event planning, fellow onboarding and offboarding, and fellow support services. General management duties include long and short-range strategic recruitment planning, administering application processing systems, event coordination, and a wide range of related activities for GrizzlyCorps. This role will also work closely with our host site partners, sponsor agencies, such as CaliforniaVolunteers, and departmental partners at Berkeley Law, such as Human Resources (HR), to ensure hiring and onboarding processes for AmeriCorps fellows are completed on time and accurately. Fellow support services include onboarding support, general program communications, and fellow outreach and advising via communications platforms such as Zoom, webinars and email.

Responsibilities

FELLOW OUTREACH RECRUITMENT:
  • Advises prospective application to GrizzlyCorps fellowship, including necessary preparation and appropriateness of program as it pertains to the prospective applicant's goals
  • Collaborates with GrizzlyCorps leadership to plan and implement outreach programs with specific target audiences.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled program information sessions throughout the year' represents the program at recruitment events
  • Under supervision, revises GrizzlyCorps fellowship position description, posts fellowship recruitment announcements, screens resumes and applications, and interviews applicants for fellowship positions.
  • Reviews applications includes electronic files, identifying applicants in need of follow-up due to incomplete or incorrect paperwork, and verifying applicant credentials.

FELLOW ONBOARDING & OFFBOARDING:
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for GrizzlyCorps fellow onboarding.
  • Coordinates with Berkeley Law Human Resources for GrizzlyCorps Fellow hiring and offboarding
  • Compiles personnel information, collects recruitment data, monitors onboarding spreadsheets and confirms AmeriCorps eligibility.
  • Organizes and maintains local personnel files while ensuring compliance with recording-keeping requirements.
  • Performs onboarding counseling as needed.
  • Responds to general onboarding and offboarding-related inquiries and questions in a timely manner.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains programmatic and onboarding training guides, workflows, and other instructional or informational material.

EVENT COORDINATION:
  • Plans, organizes and implements logistics of GrizzlyCorps events and programs, including but not limited to pre-service orientation and AmeriCorps Graduation. Logistics include venue reservations, arranging transportation, planning menus, arranging accommodations, communicating with participants, producing materials for events, and providing on-site support.
  • Participates in training and onboarding workshops.



PROGRAM SUPPORT:
  • Provides fellow support and advising via communications platforms such as Zoom, webinars and email.
  • Collaborates with teammates to effectively promote program initiatives and stories
  • Provides support for alumni initiatives.
  • Engages in professional development and training opportunities as needed.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge of basic concepts and principles of building and maintaining effective relations with AmeriCorps fellows, applicants, and other key constituencies.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, exercise initiative, and sound judgment, while effectively executing multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including tact and political acumen to effectively represent the program.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with print and digital media.
  • Ability to be a self-starter, to take initiative, and work independently as well as on a team.
  • Ability to think creatively to solve problems and develop solutions
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office, Google Suite, and videoconferencing platforms.
  • Ability to learn new computer programs and software systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB), and ability to apply and integrate core concepts of DEIB into everyday practice.
  • Commitment to creating a community that fosters equity of experience and opportunity, and ensures that AmeriCorps members, students, faculty, and staff of all backgrounds feel safe, welcome, and included.

  • Ability to commute and travel occasionally within California to GrizzlyCorps events.

Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest and/or experience in environmental policy and/or AmeriCorps.
  • Experience in recruitment, applicant review and/or conducting interviews.
  • Experience with print and digital marketing.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $32.70 - $34.65.
  • This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
  • This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly.
  • This is a hybrid position, eligible for up to 20% remote capability.
