Qualifications:

  • A doctorate degree in political science or a closely related field is required. Foreign equivalent degree accepted. ABD near completion will also be considered (must complete degree by start date). Candidates with alternative terminal degrees may be considered.
  • As an educational institution affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Church), BYU–Hawaii prefers to hire qualified members of the Church in good standing, as authorized under 41 C.F.R. § 60-1.5 (a)(6). To be eligible for employment, applicants who are members of the Church must hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend and receive a clearance from the Church’s Ecclesiastical Clearance Office.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching requirement is typically 30 semester credit hours per year over three semesters in some (but not all) of the following subject areas/courses: Introductory courses in American government, international relations, and a broad class on political inquiry, including both qualitative and quantitative research methodology. Additionally, the position would require teaching fundamental courses, such as introduction to political science and critical thinking. We are open to a range of specializations, but a geographical, or thematic focus that is of interest in Asia and the Pacific is a plus.
  • Scholarship, creative endeavor, ongoing professional development, and university service are required.
  • BYU-Hawaii’s primary focus is undergraduate learning and teaching. The individual should be fully committed to the university’s mission (https://about.byuh.edu/mission.html) and learning framework (https://clt.byuh.edu/framework-for-learning).

  • Salary range: 110K to 125K depending on rank, credentials and experience.

  • Annually renewable contract eligible for Continuing Faculty Status (BYU-H equivalent of “tenure-track”).
