Position Summary

Nicolet College is establishing a pool of qualified applicants to provide laboratory and/or clinical instruction in a variety of Associate Degree Nursing courses. The Nursing Adjunct Instructor will report directly to the Associate Dean of Health Occupations.

Responsibilities will be at the Rhinelander Campus and designated outreach and clinical locations with variable hours depending upon the individual teaching assignment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • According to statewide aligned curriculum, deliver performance-based, learning-centered instruction.
  • Working knowledge of computer software (e-mail, Microsoft Word, etc.)
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and student success.
  • Promote student success through timely communication, growth-based feedback, and implementation of strategies that meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Create performance-based assessment plans or implement those developed for specific classes.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and scholastic records of students, including student evaluations, and submit reports according to published deadlines.
  • Implement teaching strategies appropriate to student learning needs which incorporate the College Core Abilities, Nursing Program Outcomes, and specific course competencies.
  • Base teaching methods in educational theory and evidenced-based practices.
  • Participate in continuing education to promote professional growth and teaching practices.
  • Model critical thinking and clinical reasoning in classroom and clinical settings and promote opportunities for students to develop these skills.
  • Maintain professional practice knowledge.
  • Develop working relationships with students, faculty, and clinical staff to promote positive learning environments.
  • Engage in student retention strategies as appropriate.
  • Promote learning environments to promote socialization to the role of the professional nurse.
  • Conduct clinical and didactic evaluation of students to assess learning in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains.
  • Conduct clinical and didactic evaluation of peers and clinical agencies.
  • Use personal feedback to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Advocate for ethnic and cultural diversity.
  • Provide leadership at the college and program level to enhance the visibility of contributions to local and regional communities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to life-long learning and maintain professional affiliations and certifications.
  • Use feedback to improve role effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate scholarly qualities including integrity, courage, perseverance, vitality, and creativity.
  • Maintain professional, educational, and clinical relationships and participate in department activities as required.
  • Engage as a strong team player.
  • Meet and maintain Nicolet College Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements for adjunct faculty.


Required Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in Nursing, or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with a graduate degree in progress.
  • Minimum of two years (4,000 hours) of verifiable occupational work experience as a registered nurse, with one year (2,000 hours) within the last five years.
  • Current active registered nurse license or unencumbered privilege to practice in Wisconsin.
  • Maintain health requirements, current health care criminal background check, and American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare providers as required by clinical agencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in Nursing.
  • Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary setting.
  • Experience with a variety of instructional delivery methods: face to face, clinical, lab, and online.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Employment experience in a variety of professional nursing settings.
  • Knowledge of emerging healthcare trends and implications for healthcare education.
  • Ability and motivation to effectively teach students of varied ages, learning styles, academic levels, and cultural backgrounds in classroom and clinical settings.
  • Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary setting preferred.
  • Ability and motivation to work independently and collaboratively to facilitate student learning.
  • Experience with alternative delivery methods preferred. This includes teaching in online and blended courses, and accelerated learning platforms.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships across the college and within the district.
Physical Demands:

  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, and must be able to problem solve and perform complex tasks without error.
  • Ability to read and understand documents/displays, type, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to normal office conditions and usual office equipment, as well as a variety of health care agencies and related equipment.
  • The employee must have gross motor skills: ability to maintain balance, move within confined spaces, reach, push, pull, or stabilize and move and/or lift 50 pounds.
  • The employee must have fine motor skills: pick up and grasp small objects, pinch/squeeze or work with fingers, twist/turn objects using hands.
  • The employee must maintain physical endurance (work on your feet 8 hours or more).
  • The employee must maintain mobility: ability to squat, stand, walk, and climb stairs.
  • Specific hearing abilities required by this job include hear normal speaking-level sounds, hear faint voices or whispers.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include see objects up to 20 inches away, see objects up to 20 feet away, use depth perception, use peripheral vision, distinguish color and color intensity.
  • The employee must use tactile senses: feel vibrations, detect temperature (skin, solutions, environmental), feel differences in surface characteristics.
  • The employee must be able to detect body and environmental odors and tolerate exposure to allergens, heat, and humidity.
  • The employee must maintain emotional stability: provide emotional support, adapt to changing environment/stress, focus attention on task, cope with strong emotions, and respond to the unexpected.
  • This position requires regular and punctual employee presence.


Adjunct instructors are extended a contract for each course instructed. Benefits are not included with these part-time positions.
