Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:The Nanoscience Department at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro seeks to hire a tenure track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor in support of its concentration in advanced materials to its PhD and MS programs. The Department of Nanoscience is a dynamic and transdisciplinary department that is graduate-only and research-intensive. The Department of Nanoscience offers several graduate degree programs including Ph.D.’s in Nanoscience with concentrations in Advanced Materials and Synthetic Biology; a thesis-based MS; and a Professional MS in collaboration with the Bryan School of Business and Economics. The department is located within the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, an institution joined at the Dean level between the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and North Carolina A&T State University.
Position Summary:Applicants who work in the field of advanced nanomaterials and can complement or grow current research efforts in the department (primarily experimental) are welcome to apply. Of particular interest are those whose research programs will focus on and expertise in the design, fabrication and synthesis, characterization, and applications of advanced materials, particularly in the context of nanoscience and nanotechnology of semiconductors primarily experimental with the extensive use of cleanroom. The nanoscience faculty has access to a suite of cleanroom micro/nanofabrication tools, material synthesis and testing resources. However, all strong applicants working in the field of advanced materials broadly defined will be considered.
Minimum Qualifications:Qualified applicants will have an earned PhD in a relevant science discipline such as chemistry or chemical engineering, physics, materials science and engineering, electrical engineering, or biomaterials, and have at least two years of postdoctoral training.
Preferred Qualifications:Competitive candidates will have an excellent record of research as demonstrated by their publication record and exhibit great promise of extramural funding or have an established record of extramural funding. New faculty will be expected to develop an externally-supported research program, teach effectively at the graduate level, collaborate with researchers in the Joint School of Nanoscience & Nanoengineering as well as with researchers in their field, and participate in Departmental and University service activities, with opportunities at the Joint School to engage in entrepreneurial activities.
