Master of Financial Engineering (MFE). The curriculum and program structure adapt rapidly to meet the needs of the firms and industries where our graduates will work. Job Summary:

The Executive Director of the Masters in Financial Engineering (MFE) Program owns the leadership and operational oversight of the program to outside organizations, and to Haas faculty, staff, and students. Ranked among the top programs of its kind globally, the MFE serves diverse learners representing about a dozen countries. The Executive Director is responsible for establishing and executing strategies and goals for the MFE Program as well as overseeing the program's entire student lifecycle: admissions, student services, careers and alumni. The Executive Director works with the Finance Faculty to develop and implement program curriculum. This position engages with industry leaders to deepen and create new relationships to enhance career opportunities for MFE students.


Directs and administers an independent programmatic responsibility.
  • Assess, implement, and manage academic and student experience, including admissions, student services, career management, and alumni engagement for the Master of Financial Engineering program based upon a wide-ranging understanding of graduate business educational programs, student development, academic advising, diversity and leading edge best practices. This includes full responsibility for the student services function, assessment, management, and needed updates so that students have access to needed programs and are fully supported with academic and career outcomes. Partners with the Career Management group to create a strategic plan that supports program goals and growth. Takes executive responsibility for events from orientation to graduation and partners with student leadership to marry the student and school priorities in order to support continuous innovation. Manages escalations of student conduct and academic integrity concerns. Proactively innovate ways that support atypical learning experiences.

Establishes and deepens relationships with the financial and fintech sector, including employers, to inform curriculum decisions, contribute to student placement in internships and full-time positions, solicit industry projects for students, and identify and assess prospective lecturers.
  • Advises and coaches students on job search strategy, offers negotiation tactics, career pathways, and networking skills both in 1:1 settings and group workshops. May co-teach the professional/career development class.
  • Manages placement staff and places students in internships and full-time positions.

Manages financial and HR resources, and MFE program staff focused on admissions, academic and student experience, and career placement.

  • Makes decisions on performance, salary actions, hiring decisions, and other human resources related issues of managed staff.
  • Recognizes issues that have campus impact or future implications and advises the managed employees accordingly.
  • Directs the program budgeting and accounting processes to support the financial infrastructure of program.
  • Develops financial forecasts and budgets to manage spending to budget.
  • Manages Admissions function to implement diverse recruiting and revenue strategies, ensuring the quality of students and the long-term health of the programs.
  • Develops program infrastructure to support the scaling up and/or growth and structure of the MFE

Leads efforts of various departments and managers to ensure interdisciplinary collaboration. Faculty Engagement & Curriculum Planning:
  • Leads faculty in the planning curriculum development for the programs.
  • Works with faculty and appropriate academic committees within Berkeley Haas to ensure academic rigor, relevancy, and coordination.
  • Evaluate lecturer course effectiveness and impact.
  • Lead through trust and collaboration in working with faculty to help drive the process for curriculum development and to determine and assess learning objectives.

Identifies and pursues funding opportunities and revenue streams.
  • Participates in long-range planning and analyses to identify new program options that contribute to revenue growth.

Leads necessary efforts to recommend changes to program's content, policies and procedures to align with best practices of top business schools.
  • Develops ideas for improvement, secures resources and support, and oversees implementation and achievement of stated goals.Ensures reporting compliance.

Serves on committees representing the program, participating in short term and long term planning.
  • Represents program to external organizations.

Required Qualifications
  • To support continued program and student success, the successful candidate will demonstrate: related industry expertise to develop and maintain partnerships and industry trends and expertise; and/or demonstrated leadership and management accomplishments in graduate business program development, implementation, and analysis in relation to educational policies, trends, and university policies, procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of curriculum planning and academic program development or skills to quickly learn and partner with faculty stakeholders on academic program management.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn: common university-specific computer application programs and databases university and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
  • Advance knowledge and experience in finance topics in both academic research and/or industry practice.
  • Significant experience in financial services, senior executive/general manager in private sector or university / academic senior management role.
  • Demonstrated success in problem identification, reasoning, and execution of needed improvements.
  • Experience in strategic long range planning, budget development, report and proposal writing, critical thinking/analysis, policy interpretation, committee work, events planning, and public presentations.
  • Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills, plus capability to collaborate successfully and deliver results.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated effectiveness in public speaking and facilitations.
  • Self starter; can work independently, manage multiple competing priorities, and foster teamwork.
  • High level of political and personnel management acumen. Experience effectively maintaining confidentiality, objectivity, sensitivity, discretion, professionalism, and exercise good judgment and tact.
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively with diverse constituencies, including demonstrated consensus building skills; developed or adapted professional commitment to lead graduate student affairs office into a culture that strives toward providing world class support to students and faculty.
  • Demonstrates success in recruitment and placement in full time positions and internships. Strong marketing, strategic planning, and organizational development skills.

Education Level
  • Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $105,500.00 - $167,000.00
