The Department of Art and Design at Augusta University's Pamplin College is seeking applicants for an academic year, tenure-track position in art history at the rank of Assistant Professor. The preferred candidate will be expected to teach three courses per semester at all levels of undergraduate art history.

We seek candidates interested in the full range of global art histories, theories, and methodologies, and who value interdisciplinary learning approaches. As our department grows into areas such as animation, filmmaking, and graphic design, we are also seeking candidates with an interest in expanding the scope of our art history curriculum to include some of those areas.

In addition to teaching, full-time faculty maintain their research/scholarship, mentor students, engage with other faculty, and participate in various departmental activities. This is a tenure-track faculty position (9-month contract) with duties anticipated to begin in August 2024.


Teaching - Teach three courses per semester at all levels of undergraduate art history. These will include courses within the BFA and BA concentrations. Maintain an active role developing/enhancing departmental curricula and programs while demonstrating leadership in student mentoring and advising.

Scholarship - Responsible for the production of research, scholarship and/or creative activities having regional and greater reach.

Service - Service to the department, college, and university by participating actively, regularly and equitably on committees and serving the departmental needs.

Required Qualifications

Assistant Professor- Terminal degree (or nearing its completion), or its equivalent in training, ability, and/or experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;

- Evidence of ability as a teacher;

- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;

- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and

- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with students, faculty, administration, and community members.
  • Active publication record.
  • A demonstrated engagement with critical and theoretical issues in contemporary art.


This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.

Assistant Professor- $58,000 to $62,000

Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire and are based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, etc. while also considering internal equity and market data.
