The Director of the Student Support Services Program (Scholars Network) reports to the VP for Student Engagement & Success, and primary responsibilities are the administration, implementation, planning, and coordination of all aspects of the federally funded program. Duties also include supervision and training of counselors, educational tutors, and clerical staff. The director will also be responsible for the coordination of academic, personal, and career counseling, tutorial, and transfer services and activities for low-income, first-generation participants. The director prepares and manages the program budget and ensures that all project services and initiatives are consistent with the federal regulations of the granting agencies.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

This position requires a bachelor’s degree and student services experience. Preferred candidate will have a master’s degree and one (1) year of experience in student services programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidate will have a degree in counseling, education, or a related field with three (3) years of experience in educational counseling and mentoring programs or providing services to college students and adults preferred. Also preferred is relevant administrative experience with Federal or state grants and two (2) years of successful experience providing counseling or academic services to disadvantaged individuals. Certification in counseling is highly desirable. Experience with socially, economically, and educationally disadvantaged populations, students or adults with disabilities, proposal writing skills, and knowledge of educational brokering and post-secondary enrollment services for high school students preferred. Extensive experience/background in individual/group counseling theories, group dynamics, counseling techniques, and ethical standards, particularly concerning nontraditional populations. Familiarity with college, community, and business resources. Experience as a workshop leader. Previous budget management and supervisory experience is highly desirable. Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills and outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills are essential. Knowledge of computerized information management systems is highly desirable.
