Department Summary:

The University of North Texas (UNT) is strategically located in Denton, Texas which is 35 miles north of both Dallas and Fort Worth. There are over 42,000 students registered in 113 bachelors, 94 masters, and 36 doctoral degree programs. The DFW area has more than six million people, with significant economic growth, numerous industrial establishments, and excellent school districts. The UNT Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department is in the 550,000 square foot UNT College of Engineering Discovery Park building situated on 290 acres of land available for R&D enterprises. The College of Engineering was established in 2003 and currently houses five departments.

Its bachelor programs are ABET accredited and offers master’s and doctoral level graduate programs. UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. Position Summary:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for three Assistant/Associate Professor faculty positions. As openings arise, we will actively source candidates from this applicant pool.
The ME Department is particularly interested in candidates with strengths in the areas that are directly related to the mission of the department. For these three positions, candidates with experience in the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • intelligent autonomous systems (intelligent mobility and transportation vehicles, intelligent robotics, smart mechanical systems, and reduced order computations using emerging technologies).
  • mechatronics and microdevices (tactile and haptic, unmanned aerial systems, artificial intelligence, sensors, and healthcare).
  • robotics and control (bio-inspired robotics, human-machine interface, control and safety in transportation systems).
The successful candidates will build on current strengths in the Department and will contribute to our research program, promote transdisciplinary research, develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program funded by extramural funding sources, teach ME undergraduate and graduate courses, support, and mentor graduate students, and provide service to the University and the profession.

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned doctorate in mechanical engineering or in a closely related field. Post-doctoral research experience or other academic/industrial research experience is commended.

  • For the Assistant Professor positions, a strong publication record and the potential to succeed in securing research funding and mentoring graduate students are required.
  • For the Associate Professor positions, the requirements include a sustained record of scholarship and external research funding with active grant(s), successful mentoring of junior faculty, and recognized service activities.
