The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) are inviting applications for the position of an Academic Physiatrist. This full-time appointment will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto with a position description as a Clinician Teacher (CT) or a Clinician in Quality and Innovation (CQI) at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant, or Associate Professor. It is expected that the position will be approximately 80% clinical and 20% teaching for a CT, or 80% clinical and 20% in Quality and Innovation for a CQI. Expected start date is July 1, 2024, or another mutually agreeable date thereafter.

We are seeking a physician who will foster excellence in PM&R with broad clinical and teaching interests related to PM&R and particular interests including: rehabilitation outcomes, clinical epidemiology and health services, complex medical conditions, and inpatient cardiac care. This position will be based at the St. John’s Rehabilitation campus of SHSC and will focus clinically on inpatient rehabilitation consultation, but may also be supplemented with outpatient clinics at the Bayview campus. Responsibilities will include demonstrated excellence in clinical care, participation in inpatient rehabilitation programs, and clinical teaching, as well as relevant quality and innovation projects.

The successful candidate will join the energetic program in PM&R with academically focused faculty members at SHSC. There are also a wealth of academic opportunities in collaboration with clinician scientists and investigators in departments and areas such as geriatrics, orthopedics, surgery, neurology, family medicine and trauma.

The Division of PM&R at the University of Toronto is a strong academic program with over 80 faculty members and 20 residents, and with programs extending across the Greater Toronto Area. Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) is a world leader in trauma care, emergency and critical care, brain sciences, heart and stroke disorders, and musculoskeletal care.

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree and must have or be eligible for certification in PM&R by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; and have or be eligible for medical licensure in Ontario.

Estimated remuneration will be in the range of $250,000- $300,000 (fee for service) commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. The candidate will be able to participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.
