Job Summary

The Career Development Assistant will provide administrative support and one-on-one and group career advising and coaching to undergraduate and graduate students and alumni. Career advising and coaching will include but is not limited to resume and curriculum vitae writing, cover letter and personal statement writing, mock interviews, class presentations, career and major exploration, graduate/professional school search strategies, shadowing/job/internship search strategies, and professional career transition topics.

Responsibilities

Advising - 75
Advise students in one-on-one and group settings (including workshops and class presentations) or career development and graduate/ professional school planning topics.

Programming - 15
Assist with the implementation of career and graduate/ professional school fairs, networking events and programs.

Administrative - 10
Manage and route calls appropriately, greet Career Center visitors, process office expenses, manage and order office supplies, prepare meeting agendas, and support the direct administrative needs of the Office of Student Success and Career Development.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent related experience

Other Required Qualifications
Experience advising college students and delivering career planning related programs within a higher education environment; Ability to use and learn career management and career development technology to assist students and contribute to departmental assessment plan; Research and use career, occupational, graduate/professional school, and employment information for guiding students; Strong technology skills related to the area of career counseling/advising including: career planning, occupational search, and graduate/professional school search tools and resources and/or career assessments (e.g., LinkedIn, Holland Self-Directed Search, MBTI, StrengthsQuest, computerized career guidance systems such as Focus2, career management systems such as Handshake, social media, etc.); Using and learning technology for the purpose of administrative duties, accessing online career resources, and using departmental career management tools; Demonstrated experience creating and presenting educational workshops/programs; Experience with building and maintaining successful working relationships with students/alumni, faculty/staff, and employers; Ability to travel for professional development.

Required Experience
Incumbent must have experience advising or mentoring students. They should have the ability to learn and use career development technology to assist students, and research and use occupational, graduate/professional school, and employment information for guiding students. Additionally, the incumbent must be able to create and present educational workshops/programs and assist with event planning and office administrative duties.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Currently pursuing or a completed Master's degree.

Preferred Experience
Previous experience in career services, academic advising, tutoring, or a related functional area with one-on-one advising or mentoring interactions within a college setting.

ABILITIES
Ability to use technology for tracking and monitoring student progress and presentation purposes.

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of student development and career development theories and their application in the career advising process.

SKILLS
Assessing student needs and working with them to develop career action plans to prepare for graduate and professional school and the workforce. Strong written and verbal communication skills, creative, and capable of multi-tasking and setting priorities within a team environment.
