Job Details

The Highlights: The simulation specialist provides technical support for all simulation operations at the De Paul Lincoln Park campus, including: preparation, maintenance and repair of computerized manikins (software and hardware), task trainers and related multimedia equipment. This specialist supports all aspects of the simulation program for for all programs in the School of Nursing.

What You'll Do:

  • Provides technical support for all simulation operations. Prepares, maintains, cleans, and repairs manikins. Conducts routine equipment maintenance, interfaces with the equipment manufacturers regarding equipment operation, trouble shooting and scheduling of yearly preventive maintenance. 
  • Serves as simulation operator. Creates scenarios in collaboration with faculty instructors and in conjunction with Simulation educators to make recommendations to assure quality student learning through simulation.  Tests scenarios in collaboration with faculty instructors and in conjunction with Simulation educator to test the experience prior to the student experience.  Runs scenarios in collaboration with faculty instructors and in conjunction with Simulation Educators to assure the quality of student experience through simulation. Serve as the patient voices and standardized patient as needed. 
  • Assist with developing the simulation schedules and supervising graduate assistants in the nursing lab. 
  • Supports the use of digital media and provide technical support for computer based multimedia systems. Operates digital and video cameras.  Instructs and supports faculty in the use of the SMART board, I- HUMAN, and Docucare programs as needed. 
  • Maintains inventory list and makes recommendations for purchases. 

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree required. A medical background is preferred.  
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operation Specialist (CHSOS) certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Essential physical competencies include: extended sitting, standing, walking, ability to grasp, push, pull, bend or squat, move quickly in response to an emergency.
  • Routinely the simulation operations specialist will be required to reach, carry, move or lift equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounders or greater. Human Patient Simulators weigh up to 200 pounds.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn installation, configuration, operations and trouble shooting human patient simulators and medical equipment. Other qualities would include: creativity, flexibility, integrity, self-motivation and problem solving skills. Working knowledge is required for medical simulation technology and devices, audio visual systems, computer proficiency. Maintains strict confidentiality (100% of the time) regarding student performance, actions, or comments and /or faculty actions or comments during all simulation activities and provide security measures for the use of video recording, retrieval and removal.
  • Overtime is not expected; an occasional weekend or evening may be required. There is no on call expectation. The simulation specialist will occasionally travel between the Lincoln Park and Rosalind Franklin campus for training, meetings, or workshops. Attendance at yearly local or national conferences is expected to stay current with with technologies and best practice standards.
