Job Description:

The University of Florida's Department of Urban and Regional Planning (Department hereafter) invites applications for the position of Program Coordinator of the newly-established Programs of the Master of Science in Urban Analytics and the Graduate Certificate of Urban Analytics and Instructional Assistant Professor in the Department. The Department aims to advance education and research in urban analytics and actively contribute to the AI initiative of the University. The Graduate Certificate Program of Urban Analytics was approved in 2022, and the Master of Science in Urban Analytics was approved in 2023. The Department seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, and highly organized individual to lead the Programs as Program Coordinator and to teach courses in the Department as an Instructional Assistant Professor. Primary responsibilities of this position include teaching and advising, managing the operation of the Programs, and leading new Program growth areas within the guidelines set by the Department and the Department's Urban Analytics Committee.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Program Coordinator is responsible for academic administration and strategic development of the Programs, including but not limited to program administration, curriculum supervision, student recruitment and retention, marketing and promotion, and managing strategic initiatives. The Program Coordinator reports directly to the Chair of the Department.

The Department seeks a dynamic and diligent leader who is committed to high-quality education and research, who will foster growth and productivity through administrative skills and leadership consistent with the core values of the Department, and who will contribute to the teaching, scholarship, and outreach of both the Programs and the Department. This is a 12-month, non-tenure accruing faculty position on the Instructional Professor track.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Academic and program administration:
    Oversee course development and revision. Review the Program curriculum and coordinate with the Department Chair and the Committee to ensure the integrity of the Programs and seek opportunities for Program enhancement and expansion.
  • Coordinate with partnering academic units to ensure consistent course delivery and student success.
  • Advise students and ensure a successful learning experience throughout the Programs, including application and admission, course registration, thesis guidance, and graduation support. Plan and coordinate student events, including but not limited to new student orientations and information sessions.
  • Collect and analyze Program metrics and course evaluations to ensure an ongoing standard of excellence. Provide data and evaluation reports to the Department, the College, the University, the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning, the Planning Accreditation Board, Planetizen, the American Planning Association, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and other entities as appropriate.

Marketing and Recruitment:
  • Represent the Programs within the school, college, university, profession, and community
  • Oversee marketing and promotion of the Programs. Lead efforts to connect with alumni and professional communities for the purposes of marketing the program domestically and abroad
  • Manage student recruitment and retention.

New Program Development:
  • Works with the Committee and the Department to coordinate the development of self-funded Urban Analytics or related Programs.

Teaching:
  • Teach six courses per year in the Department, which may be taught concurrently on-campus and online. This assignment may be reduced, especially during the first two years, depending on the extent of administrative responsibilities.
  • Course assignments will be based on needs and areas of expertise. Examples of the courses include urban analytics, artificial intelligence, data science, Geographic Information Systems, quantitative methods (statistics), spatial analysis, and urban economics.

Department Service:
  • Other duties the Department chair assigns.


SUPERVISION:

This position must work independently. Supervision from the Department Chair and advice from the Committee are given as needed.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:

8:00 - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday. Extended hours may be required on occasion for students' orientations, workshops, events, etc.

Expected Salary:

Salary is commensurate on education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. degree or equivalent in programs relevant to Urban Analytics, including but not limited to, Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Urban Studies, Economics, Environmental Studies, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Business Administration, and so on.
