Job Summary:

The Campus Safety Officer’s job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing service, information and aid to all citizens as circumstances require, assist and support victims of crime when directed by a supervisor, deter crime though constant uniformed presence, take non-criminal reports, and observe and report safety issues on campus. Responsible for safety and welfare of students, faculty, staff, visitors and all property under the control and jurisdiction of Lamar State College Port Arthur. Exercises independent judgement and discretion within the limits prescribed by the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents, and institutional rules and regulations. Serves as Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). This position reports to the Director of Safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certified Level III Commissioned Security Officer or willing to obtain Level III certification within 6 months of employment

$30,686; Plus Excellent Benefits; Potential to earn additional on call pay.

Work Hours:

Full-time 40 hrs. schedule may vary with some weekends and after hour events.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform security and safety duties on the Lamar State College Port Arthur campus
  • Preserve safety and security by interceding, to prevent or deter crime
  • Investigate non-criminal incidents to detect safety or security issues, and lost property
  • Prepare written reports narrating incidents, supplemental information and on-criminal activities
  • Give credible and accurate testimony in the criminal courts of this State and the United State, if required.
  • Provides assistance and support to the victims of crime, and to all student, faculty, staff and visitors to the LSCPA Campus.
  • Perform other related duties, as needed

Essential Job Functions:

Physical Requirements:This position requires the ability to constantly move about the facilities, including the outdoors. Occasionally ascend/descend stairs for patrol of the building, occasionally position self to assist students and staff with vehicle needs, the ability to communicate information both written and verbal and ideas so other will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The ability to move/transport items up to 40 lbs.

Duties involve sitting, driving, walking, running, standing, stooping, climbing, crouching, pushing, jumping over, pulling, carrying, reaching above head, lifting (40 pounds), lowering, hand-wrist and elbow motion, grasping, and holding. Good physical condition, manual dexterity, vision, ability to hear and speak and full use of arms and legs.
