Pay Range: $93,421-$129,300 and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Position Summary: An effective Dean provides strategic leadership and management of the institution, including people, processes, information, physical and financial assets; promotes the success of all students; and sustains the community college mission.

The Dean provides management for all of the programs in the Healthcare/Public Safety & Wellness division: Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Science, Nursing, Health & Wellness, Practical Nursing and Health Occupations, Respiratory Care and Neurodiagnostic Technology, Police Academy, Fire Science, and Olathe Health Education Center.

Required Qualifications: Earned doctorate degree or equivalent combination of master’s degree and relevant experience
Successful academic administrative leadership experience
College teaching experience, preferably in one of the areas supervised

Preferred Qualifications: Community college experience preferred
Program Accreditation experience and Experience in working with licensing boards

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • LEADERSHIP - Strategically improves the quality of the institution, protects the long-term health of the organization, promotes the success of all students, and sustains the community college mission, based on knowledge of the organization, its environment, and future trends. Performance is acceptable when: a. Demonstrates transformational leadership through authenticity, creativity, and vision b. Monitors and improves the quality of education and the long-term health of the organization using a variety of evidence and proven practices from internal and external stakeholders c. Uses educational landscape awareness and a systems perspective to assess and respond to the needs of the community d. Fosters a positive environment e. Aligns organizational mission, structures, and resources with the college master plan f. Works effectively and diplomatically with unique constituent groups such as legislators, board members, business leaders, accreditation organizations, and others to build networks and leverage partnerships.
  • MANAGEMENT – Equitably and ethically sustains people, processes, and information as well as physical and financial assets to fulfill the mission, vision, and goals of the community college. Performance is acceptable when: a. Supports operational decisions by managing information resources and ensuring the integrity and integration of reporting systems and databases b. Manages resources using processes consistent with the college master plan and local, state, and national policies c. Implements financial strategies to support programs, services, staff, and facilities. d. Creates a culture of talent development e. Employs organizational, time management, planning, and delegation skills f. Manages conflict and change in ways that contribute to the long-term viability of the organization.
  • COMMUNICATION – Uses clear listening, speaking, and writing skills to engage in honest, open dialogue at all levels of the college and its surrounding community, to promote the success of all students, and to sustain the community college mission. Performance is acceptable when: a. Articulates and champions shared mission, vision, and values to internal and external audiences, appropriately matching message to audience. b. Disseminates and supports policies and strategies. c. Creates and maintains open communications. d. Conveys ideas and information succinctly, frequently, and inclusively. e. Listens actively to understand, comprehend, analyze, engage, and act. f. Projects confidence and acts responsibly and tactfully.
  • SERVE AS A CAMPUS SECURITY AUTHORITY (CSA) BY - reporting crimes to the designated JCCC Clery Act Officer in accordance with applicable laws, policies and procedures. Performance is acceptable when: a. Completing training at least annually on campus safety and crime reporting issues; b. Assisting in the issuance of timely emergency warnings; c. Serving as a resource to students, employees and others regarding crime prevention, reporting and victim assistance; and d. Collaborating with the Clery Act Officer, Title IX Team, Clery Act Team and Emergency Preparedness Manager on various campus compliance issues.

Organization

Working at Johnson County Community College

With more than 34,000 students enrolled in credit and continuing education classes each semester, Johnson County Community College is the state's third largest institution of higher education and the largest of its 19 community colleges.

JCCC offers a full range of undergraduate credit courses that form the first two years of most college curricula. The college has more than 100 transfer agreements with area colleges and universities that ensure admittance to specific programs such as business, engineering and education. JCCC students are able to begin their first two years of a four-year degree program here and complete that degree on schedule.

In addition, more than 50 one- and two-year career and certificate programs prepare students to enter the job market in high-employment fields. The college maintains extensive student support services such as computer labs, math labs, a writing center and a learning center.

JCCC’s continuing education program is the largest, most comprehensive in the Kansas City area. Through the Center for Business and Technology, participants can take courses in management and computer application or seminars and workshops that lead to professional certification and licensure. Personal enrichment classes, on topics ranging from gardening to money management, are also offered, while nationally and internationally performing and visual artists appear in the performance spaces and Gallery of Art in JCCC’s Carlsen Center.

The campus, centrally located in the county on 234 acres, opened in 1972. There are 18 major buildings on campus. Currently under construction are the Regnier Center and the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art.

JCCC’s full-time faculty and staff numbers about 875. Another 1,800 people work as adjunct faculty or part-time staff. Most faculty members have master’s degrees, and many have or are earning doctorates.

JCCC returns about $2.70 to the community for every tax dollar it collects. The college's total tangible economic impact on the community is more than $182 million annually.
