This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 - Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). The Exercise Science and Athletics Department is excited to welcome a contract faculty who will be responsible for two sports teams in opposite seasons. We are looking for enthusiastic individual who will participate in the next phase of growth in Miramar's Athletics program. Majority of the responsibility will be to support the success of our student athletes on and off the field/classes. Qualifications Master's in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adaptive physical education, OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy OR the equivalent. Desired Qualifications The successful candidate will have:
  • Demonstrated mastery of exercise science subject matter AND coaching expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience, ability, and interest in teaching exercise science and athletics related courses ranging from physical conditioning, weight training, to sport specific strategies and techniques.
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement to enhance mastery of the theory and applications of exercise science and pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated ability in incorporating student-centered and equity-minded strategies in teaching and coaching to promote student success.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining accurate records including but not limited in working with budget information.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the exercise science and sport science curriculum currently offered at the community colleges as it relates to the mission of the college and the responsibilities of its faculty in realizing this mission.

The San Diego Community College District serves 130,000 students annually through three two-year colleges and six Continuing Education campuses. The three colleges, San Diego City, Mesa, and Miramar colleges, offer associate degrees and certificates in occupational programs that prepare students for entry-level jobs, and arts and sciences programs that transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Continuing Education offers adults the opportunity to renew their learning experiences through noncredit vocational, basic skills, life skills and enrichment classes at sites throughout the city. The District also provides education to over 42,000 service personnel at military bases in 15 states.
