Job Summary

The Intern, Basic Needs will provide service delivery work to the Mid-Ohio Market at Columbus State through the U.S. Department of Education Basic Needs for Postsecondary Program grant. This position will specifically work in creating healthy meal education to include in curated boxes for students, as well as support programming efforts of the Market.

Student Success and Community Building

  • Supports awareness initiatives in collaboration with Columbus State Marketing and Communications to increase student awareness of basic needs services.

  • Promotes awareness initiatives and launch of material distribution. Assists in curating healthy meal boxes with nutritional information. Distributes healthy meal boxes to students in need.

  • Assists in hosting student educational events such as crockpot giveaways.

Customer Service

  • Delivers Mid-Ohio Market services such as checking students in and assisting them in food pickup. Maintains a positive customer service atmosphere.

  • Utilizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and experience with student and customer issues. Assists in proactively addressing potential concerns, identifying potential barriers, and making appropriate referrals within Student Advocacy and other campus and community resources.

  • Assists customers by answering questions about the Market.

*Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.

Minimum Qualification

  • Enrolled in Columbus State Community College Culinary Arts program or Nutrition program or an equivalent program at The Ohio State University. At least one (1) year of experience in a customer service position, with general computer skills.
  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

Schedule: 20 hours a week
