The Department of Natural and Behavioral Sciences at Johnson C. Smith University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Assistant or Associate Professor in Biopsychology/Neuroscience (broadly defined to include Behavioral, Cognitive or Computational Neuroscience). The successful candidate will provide high quality instruction to students in the Psychology degree program, advise undergraduate students, pursue faculty development efforts, and participate in university and community service. The successful candidate will also engage in scholarly research activities involving undergraduate students with the potential for external funding. Teaching responsibilities will include courses within the candidate's area of specialization as well as core courses within the department (e.g., Psychology of Learning and Research Methods). Leadership in the establishment of a Neuroscience minor/major would be encouraged.


Candidates must possess a doctorate degree in Biological Psychology, Neuroscience, or related field. ABD candidates will be considered, but the degree must be earned by the offer date. Experience teaching a diverse population of undergraduate students, course development and curriculum design experience is encouraged. Commitment to developing an extramural-funded research program that will offer experiential learning opportunities to undergraduate students will give a candidate a competitive advantage.
Candidates with an interest in research addressing the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) are also encouraged to apply. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach with technology, display the ability to establish productive collaborations and have interpersonal skills that will allow them to be trustworthy and valued team members.
